Smoking in the bus shelter

To the woman smoking in the bus shelter this morning. You are a selfish idiot!

Not only are you not supposed to be smoking in there the pregnant woman standing outside the shelter couldn’t even sit down because of you.

You’re not cool, you are just a plain idiot. Why don’t you try recognizing that there are other people besides you in this world. You are a classless heartless twat waffle. Next time I’ll dump my water on your ciggerattes

  2. There is almost 1 million people that live in edmonton, there is less than 29 thousand that follow this page. Chances are she isint on here. Instead of running to Facebook like a keyboard warrior point it out as it’s happening.

probably does not say no smoking there .. so if its not posted then they are going to do it .. and so it has been done .. smoking in the bus shelter .. we should be using our common sense and not smoke in the shelter .. but who is to say what everyone knows what to do with their common sense …

There is a bylaw against smoking in bus shelters and there are signs on said shelters indicating that it’s not allowed.

Lisa Wood oh I did not know that … then there was no reason for her to be smoking in the shelter … … I have a disability with my lungs and the smoke really bothers me .. before I never said anything I would just move away .. but no longer .. I speak up now …needless to say I take the DATS or get rides . so do not use the bus shelters ..

Maybe speak up next time instead posting something anonymous. Smokers like that need to realize their bad habit has a real impact on those around them.

    • I think most smokers know that they effect others. Problem is they don’t care! I have stepped up in situations such as this, and the response from someone who doesn’t care is usually an obscenity or “mind your own business” or a dead pan face of no response and the continued behaviour. It gets to the point that one doesn’t bother to speak up because nothing is going to change anyway and one doesn’t feel like engaging in a fight with someone who is already a careless idiot.

I smoked for 10 years and quit in 2015. I’ll call out smokers in confined spaces like that every time. The smell literally makes me sick to my stomach.

    • Steven Owen never smoked in my life because I couldn’t stand living with it as a child. As I said, called people out and I get the “I can do what I want attitude”. People are going to give me backlash for this but I believe that if someone doesn’t have respect for their own lungs, do you honestly think they have respect for others peoples bodies?

I won’t stop asking others to be considerate even if a few decide to be willfully ignorant.

As a smoker, I agree with you Steven Owen. But I think Jenny De Clercq assumes a little too much. Most smokers are pretty considerate and will move/extinguish if asked, reasonably. I know because Im around smokers and I doubt, by your inferences, you are. I’ll suggest you re-exam how you speak to one, maybe if you change your tact, you’ll get better results. Sometimes ppl are in thought, and not aware that they’re bothering you. Heck, Ive had ppl almost run me over because their cel is mire important. Defaulting to ” smokers dont care” is childish.
I’m a reasonable man, but if you come at me or want to “call me out!”, I probably wont react well to being put down or abused, because you think you have a right. No, you dont. Remember glass houses? How would you like me to start in on you and your stinky perfume? Or your hand cream that you get all over everything you touch? Would you like to be called out in public for it? If your reasonable, probably not. Treat others as you would like to be treated is the answer, Im sorry if that’s too old fashioned for you.
Where I work, there are specific smoking areas, and we would be fined if we went anywhere else. In someones infinite wisdom, they chose at each entrance, right beside the sidewalk. Cant smoke in the parking lot, away from everyone, that would be a hefty fine. Most of us try to get as far away as possible, but the smoking areas are only so big. Sure, there are a couple that stand right next to the side walk, where the ash tray is, on purpose..there’s always a bad apple in any group, but as per the bylaws, they have a right to be there. Most of us do what we can to minimize bothering anyone. We hear the fake coughs, cursing, mumbling and see the looks of disgust. Yet were doing our best and going where were told. Apparently it seems that we were corralled to be abused, or fodder for you spite.
How much of that abuse would you take, over your freedom to wear your choice of perfume/cologne? Should I get in your face because I’m allergic to it? Or should I simply walk away and mind my own business and ensure my own health. Tge OP talks about not being able to sit in a bus shelter. Wow, #firstworldprolems . Meanwhile ppl dont have a place to sleep and get kicked out of those shelters.
I encourage you to redirect your angst to those who regulate where smoking is permitted, and the property owners. Ask them (nicely) to move these areas off of foot paths, in a reasonable setting tgat would be mutually beneficial. I would much rather have some of my tax money go to convenient covered areas for smokers than putting them in areas that will most likely offend others. Why not, we’re not talking lounges here, simple enough to be out of the rain and wind. We dont mind being segregated , its the mindless, self-rightous persecution that’s unnecessary.

Now, ask yourself, as the majority of Canada is non-smoking, why is it not illegal to smoke?

I hope you can sleep at night knowing the answer,
      and,
I hope that this, at least, gives you pause to consider the other side,
      if not
      GIP!

I agree with most of what you said, Dario.. but second hand smoke is a little beyond the realm of perfume and hand cream

    • Not really owen . But bottom line everyone has something to bitch about . I am a smoker and as very respectful as possible . I get not everyone is the same but get over it.. People are only human and can make mistakes. Did you know alcohol kills more than smokers in sooo many ways

      [0]
    • Steven Owen Steven Owen says:

I’d be interested to see those metrics. I’m not sure alcohol kills more people than tobacco related lung cancer

Too many variables to compare smoking to alcohols. There’s no doubt either isnt particularly gd for you. Either is sugar. 😉

    • Because most ppl don’t have the courage of their convictions to do what’s right. They hide behind their keyboards to be rude or do the right thing. It’s gross and you are 100% correct.
