311 Is Great Right

Shoutout to 311 as I was told they “completed their investigation” of my complaint and offered no further detail two months ago now, and this picture was taken today.

This garbage heap has been here for about 6 months now and was even bigger before all the randoms pilfered through it for a few months.

I guess the ciity has lower standards then me on what an acceptable amount of garbage looks like. They won’t do a follow up either as their investigation was completed. Props for the inaction you have taken with this. I don’t even understand how someone could be alright with their property looking like this.

Anyways that’s my rant thanks for listening when the city won’t

  1. Keep calling and keep records of the times you’ve called. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, or so I have found in a similar situation.

  2. If it’s bothering you so much could you leave a letter stating You will help to clean and remove the mess?
Sure it’s 100% Not your mess but if it’s making you angry help find a solution.
keep documenting and reporting otherwise and maybe eventually it will get cleaned.

    • I wish more people thought like this!

    • I’m sorry but I would not offer any assistance. That’s not being a good neighbour its rewarding laziness.

There’s no reason OP should have to do anything more than log a complaint.

    • Not her mess, not her yard . You don’t know what’s in that pile of stuff. Also you don’t know what kind of person is living in the house. Thirdly perdin could be charged with trespassing and theft . Best left to bylaw and go through proper channels.

      [0]
    • Ummmmm why would the neighbours help? If it’s pure laziness…. forget it. I wouldn’t help! I help by cleaning up my own messes….. so others don’t have to. Why can’t they? Unacceptable! Garbage day is once a week ffs….. nope I wouldn’t help

    • Help because you’re part of the solution and it’s bothering you.
If you have documented your attempts to have it taken care of by the city I highly doubt you’d be charged for Helping.
You don’t know the folks who live there so why not go get to know them?
It blows my mind how so many people are in the mindset that they are all for themselves. You are part of the community, speak to your other neighbour’s, maybe this person in unable or doesn’t realize the stress it’s causing. Creating a neighbourhood where one can ask the other for assistance and they look out for each other is what we all strive for no?
If your worried what may be in the pile wear protective equipment and proceed with caution. If a group of neighbour’s went at it, it’s be go be within 2 hours I bet!
As I originally said, it’s fully Not the posters mess but complaining continually and nothing is being done, maybe try something else?
I’m in the mindset that if I don’t like it I’ll do something PROACTIVE about it. And I also try to remember we are not all the same living the same circumstances so what’s good for me may not be good for you.

  3. The home owners or the renters that live in that house should maybe pay and hire someone that offers their services to haul away garbage to the dump for a fee that who advertise on the local social media side jobs groups but some people aren’t that smart or clean

    [0]
    • Usually if a complaint is logged the home owner is given a significant amount of time to clean it up and then the city will come and do it and send them the bill.

  4. Phone your council member’s office. They are always looking to make brownie points!!

  5. Why are people so bothered by things that aren’t their concern? But maybe if it bothers you so much you should contact them and ask to help them, or do it for them.

    [0]
    • I would think that if that mess is in your community, you SHOULD be worried about it. It doesn’t take long for mice to find a new home OR to multiply!

      [0]
    • Georgia Roberts Baird the neighbors took no care to find out the situation of all the debris. People are always so quick to tattle on each other, but not to help each other out.
Get off your high horse, and help someone out. Maybe then your neighborhood would be a more pleasant place to be.

      [0]
    • Georgia Roberts Baird but yet feel childish tattling is acceptable. If you’re going to live in the “BIG city” best put on your big girl panties.

Why should other people help someone that is not willing to help themselves? Maybe the person who lives there is a complete asshole. It’s not even just about mice, stuff like that is a pure eye sore and brings on other problems, if it’s not in their fenced off backyard it becomes the neighbourhoods problem. I don’t want my neighbourhood looking like a pile of shit. However I work from 9am to 9pm pretty much every day. When I’m not working I’m spending time with my family, I do not have anytime to go pick up someonebelses garbage they let get under control. The problem with society now days is no one is accountable for their actions. Calling the city isn’t “tattling” on someone if they are not following the rules they should be punished.

      [0]
    • Samara White if it wasn’t tattling then the city would be at every house down that street ‘making sure they follow the rules’.
I personally find people who use ugly lawn decor an eye sore, but it’s not illegal.
If you don’t like it, don’t look.

    • Samara White Samara White says:

Samantha Block I’m sure the city would 100% be out making sure people followed the rules if they had enough people, but they don’t. And there is a HUGE difference between lawn decorations and garbage. You might be okay with living in a neighbourhood that looks like shit but that doesn’t mean that others do, or even should have to.

      [0]
    • Samara White my neighborhood doesn’t look like shit because we are the type of people who help each other out. Not to busy judging each other.

      [0]
    • Samara White Samara White says:

Samantha Block Just because someone isn’t helping someone clean up their piles of garbage doesn’t mean anyone is judging them. That’s great your neighborhood will go over and clean up someone’s shit they clearly neglected, however, it’s not their responsibility nor should they have to. I wish I had enough time in my life to help someone clean their property they neglected so much, sadly I do not. Rules are put in place for a reason, if you don’t want to follow them and you want to live with garbage piled in your yard go buy an acreage.

    • Cee Dee Hawn Cee Dee Hawn says:

      Samantha Block that’s bullshit.
Don’t project that on to the neighbours. Go clean it yourself, but don’t you dare place that burden on the neighbours that want a decent bloody neighbourhood.
All that talk about being a nice neighbour….but you flat out fail at being nice here and now.
Congratulations at failing your own expectations.

    • The smell, the vermin the mess from the vermin will be everyone’s concern …. it attracts crows magpies seagulls mice etc and that’s just a few….. so ya it’s everyone’s business

      [0]
    • assuming neglect sounds like judgement to me. If the city performed an investigation, maybe there are special circumstances that we don’t know.

    • Bernice Piotrowski I can say I did an investigation and not even leave my desk!

Did you report using the 311 App on your cell phone? Or did you keep track of the “request number” assigned to it? If so, follow up with 311 on a regular basis & also share with your alderman. This mess is ridiculous & could be harbouring rodents etc.

  8. Google who your city councilor is and e-mail them. I have done this and got very quick and satisfying results

  13. Lol strange when my neighbours had a similar disaster in their yard the city had it dealt with pretty quickly. I have also had them on my ass for branch cutoffs sitting on my back lane for 2 days.

Go online and log your complaint through there. Do that everyday and I’ll bet you get a response lol

  20. I have these neighbours who have built a shack, totally didn’t have permits, have hoards of wood all within ft of a fire pit they leave unattended. They’re drunks and party till all hours, have no respect for anyone. I’ve called bylaw so many times for noise complaints, unattended firepits ( firededartment has been there so many times I can’t count), it’s just a mess of wood that looks stolen or left from construction, they’ve brought furniture into the yard, and Im sick of looking at their shack they built which is about 4 inches from a powerline. I’ve called bylaw to come to inspect so many times and they told me they’re to busy with commercial buildings to worry about residential. That was in September. I’m just waiting for the day they trip and fall into their fire pit or for their shack to go up in flames. I’ve also seen them URINATE on their neighbours house. Like squat against their house and pee. The city really doesn’t care.

  22. Then maybe everyone should go ahead and dump their garbage for all to see. If anyone complains just tell them dont look??!! Or when you try to sell your house and no one will buy because the neighborhood looks like crap, then what?

  25. Fire hazards are everyone’s concerns. A few years ago in the middle of the night a fire broke out in some abandoned and condemned houses east of 101 str; directly east of Royal Alex hospital. There were flammables apparently in the buildings and these houses were used by people who had nowhere to live. City did not do much about it even after the fire and I haven’t been in the area for a few years so I don’t know if they have as yet removed the dangers. That night as a bunch of us kept our eyes on the fire we wondered and worried if it would spread. Luckily it was contained.

  26. Call again. That is not ok. Anyone who thinks you should have to ignore it or clean it yourself is being absurd.
