but also the people who think they can go over 100 and treat the left lane like a fast lane (meaning over 100) are idiots….. yes if you are going 80 stay right to let the people going 100 pass but if your driving 100 then you have every right to stay in that left lane and not let the idiots speeding pass…..

    [1]
    • Cindy Deere Cindy Deere says:

Ok idiot but its not meant for passing people going 120

      [1]
    • It is not called a fast lane, it is called a passing lane lol. The henday is also not a highway it’s a freeway so technically there is no passing lane.

      [1]
    • Cindy Deere Cindy Deere says:

Absolutely Candace your 100 percent correct

      [1]
    • Except it isn’t actually the law. The law states that you must be going at or near the speed limit to travel in the centre lane. It doesn’t state that you have to move over if you aren’t passing people.

      [1]
    • Simple stay out of the left lane period unless you plan to speed or pass

      [1]
    • Will Nichol Will Nichol says:

Ummm no you don’t, the left lane is the FAST lane which means even if you are doing 120 & someone is coming up on you faster , you are now slower traffic and are required to move over. Ass

      [0]
    • Cindy Deere Cindy Deere says:

I work for transportation and I know the rules thanks though

    • Matthew L Matthew L says:

when someone behind you flashes their lights to pass move the fuck out of their way instead of braking trying to slow them down leave patrolling for police you never know if they are heading to a hospital or an emergency

      [0]
    • Will Nichol, the left lane is for passing, not for speeding. If you’re speeding, you are breaking the law.

      [0]
    • Will Nichol Will Nichol says:

Iam not saying its for speeding, it’s called making a point

      [0]
    • Can you imagine if everyone drove the same speed? How congested roads would be? Quit policing people on the speed they drive and just get out of that lane, it prevents traffic congestion and traffic congestion causes accidents! It isn’t rocket science.

      [0]
    • It is not the law. It’s called common courtesy to move over.

      [0]
    • Tyler Seguin Tyler Seguin says:

If you’re in the left lane and someone is speeding up behind you it is not your job to force them to slow down by staying in that lane. It is your job to move back into the right hand lane and allow them to pass. They’ve even started giving out fines to left lane hogs in BC. It isn’t your job to police the roads, leave that to police and photo radar. Speeders know the consequences and pay for them. Stick to your day job stop thinking you’re some vigilante doing good in the world.

      [0]
    • Will Nichol, I will agree with you to a point. If I encounter a slower driver, I will change lanes into the left lane and overtake the slower driver, but I will not exceed the speed limit. As soon as it is safe, I will switch back into the right lane, but it takes as long as it takes. If you’re speeding and you catch up, TFB, Maintain a safe distance until I clear the lane.

If im going 110 an you wanna pass me well FU.

      [0]
    • Jeff Holden Jeff Holden says:

Wrong. You’re not the police. If safe to do so move over. Slower traffic keep to the right. It isn’t up to you, me or anyone of these fine people on here to police someone’s speed. Let them by, if they get a ticket, that’s their problem.

Please don’t ever drive you fucking moron.

      [0]
    • Lynn Meger Lynn Meger says:

No actually you do not have every right to stay in the left lane if you’re doing 100. You need to brush up on the rules of the road, the left lane is a PASSING lane. If there is room in the right lane and traffic coming up behind you going faster than you – move over. THOSE are the rules of the road.

      [0]
    • Exactly! Let the cops do their jobs and get the f#@$ out of the way!

      [0]
    • Will Nichol Will Nichol says:

The fact of the matter is, fast lane or passing lane, if you are in the left lane & someone is catching up, you need to move over. That’s the law & it doesn’t matter if it’s called a highway or a freeway same rules apply

      [-1]
    • The left lane is for passing only, Dummy. Say what you will about speeders, but if you’re in the left lane and you aren’t passing anyone, you need to go back into the drive lane.

      [-2]
  2. Kim Schindel Kim Schindel says:

It’s called a public road. Doing 120 plus in winter conditions is unsafe. 100 is the LIMIT in perfect road conditions.

  3. Evelyn Skura Evelyn Skura says:

100 is maximum, drive according to road conditions!

    [1]
  4. LuckyMe Chan LuckyMe Chan says:

If 100 is max ppl needa stop going 200 thats the problen

    [1]
  5. You could also put it this way: the speed limit is 100, not 120

    [1]
  6. If road conditions are good. But I know what you mean

    [0]
  7. It should be 110, the people who drive 80 on bare roads are aids

    [0]
  8. I know I am so sick of idiots going 80 in a 100. Move bitch get out the way.

    [0]
  9. Now now. No need to show you’re assholeness. People can drive how they want where they want and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. If they choose to drive 80 on the Henday, they can. Don’t like it? Too damn bad. Go around them. But just know that if you are driving dangerously around them then you can get reported. Live and let live. Smile and just say Merry Christmas.

    [0]
    • 100 is the MAXIMUM. Not the minimum speed limit

      [1]
    • No. I’m good. But thank you for pointing that out. And you need niceness lessons Keith Currie. Just saying.

      [1]
    • Valerie Steinhauer and you’re the reason why people precisely get road rage. Driving is a privilege. You clearly think you’re above the driving mannerisms and laws. It has zero to do with me on FB. I’m a very courteous driver. I’ll gladly give u the finger if I see you driving and pissing off the rest of Edmonton with your “driving habits”.

Ps- I hope Santa crash lands into your vehicle so you have to take the LRT. And since I’m the grinch, maybe I’ll steal your license and throw it into the Sask. river.

      [1]
    • Keith Currie Keith Currie says:

Ppl like you make it seem that driving dangerously under the limit are ok to be on the rd. Extremely wrong lady

      [0]
    • No. I’m saying don’t be an asshole and Merry Christmas. Live and let live

      [0]
    • Keith Currie Keith Currie says:

Ya…… no not what i read. If everyone thought like you, more fatalities would be on record for sure. I hope you have better driving habits and better sense of safety while you’re driving

      [0]
    • If everyone thought like me they would live and let live. And say Merry Christmas. People are gonna do what they’re gonna do. Even if it’s driving 80 on the Henday. No amount of crying or finger pointing is going to change that.

      [0]
    • Merry Christmas Valerie 🙂

      [0]
    • Merry Christmas Jessica Erin Marie Mason

    • You’re an idiot. You can’t impede traffic because you want to. You’re probably one of the idiots that I run into while driving in this city. Please shred your license.

      Sincerely- Every driver

      [0]
    • And maybe that’s why you run into them. Because you are not a courteous driver. You must be a mean ass driver that likes to give mean faces and stick your finger up at people. Santa should leave you some happiness in your stocking this year. Wow are you ever a mean one Mr Grinch.

    • Julie Cooper Julie Cooper says:

If everyone is doing 100 and you are doing 80, at the VERY least get out of the left lane. You are actually supposed to maintain the speed of the majority as one going significantly slower seriously affects the flow. Also, with the Henday, many people are trying to merge onto Henday and if you are going 80 it creates a mess

      [0]
    • Keith Currie Keith Currie says:

Yes and obstructing traffic is a fine as well. A cop will give you a ticket doing 80 in 100 zone. It’s dangerous as well

      [0]
    • Keith Currie Keith Currie says:

Doing 80 in right lane can cause huge mess when ppl are trying to merge at 100 with normal flow of traffic. You shouldn’t be on rd if you can’t do 100

      [0]
    • Keith Currie Keith Currie says:

Valerie Steinhauer You need driving lessons it sounds

      [0]
    • All very good information. Thank you. But people are still going to drive 80 on the Henday just to piss you off.

      [0]
    • Your the type of person that creates road rage and may one day be followed home by someone not willing to put up with it just saying we live in a crazy society

      [0]
    • People will do whatever they want to do. No angry rant is going to change the ways of these drivers. Yea there are people who shouldn’t drive, but guess what? They do. So deal with it. Nobody cares about your road rage.

      [0]

    • going 20 under is illegal. its too slow and causes people going the posted speed limit to slam on their breaks. the road isnt a free for all. You cant go as fast as you want and you cant go as slow as you want. Going slower isnt being a courteous driver its being a hazard…

      [0]
    • Keith Currie be careful dude, she will call you a grinch. She’s obviously a superior driver with her knowledge of absolutely nothing

      [0]
    • And bitching and complaining about it on Facebook isn’t going to make it stop. And being a keyboard warrior isn’t going to make it stop. Even putting up horror stories isn’t gonna make it stop. The point is… PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DO WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO REGARDLESS IF IT’S RIGHT OR WRONG. no amount of ranting is going to change that.

      [0]
    • I don’t recall saying that I drive like that. I said people drive like that. And if you have road rage like that to actually hurt someone or wish ill will on anyone then there is seriously something wrong with you and you may have anger management issues. Merry Christmas to all. And have a lovely day.

    Or stay to the right.

    [0]
  14. There are times on the Henday when holding a steady 100 km is not possible. This is especially true depending on time of day and the congested areas on the Henday. This is in no ones control. But if this ruins your fkn little day to the point where you have to post on here, move to Germany and commute on the Autobaun.

  15. Tracy Veen Tracy Veen says:

100is the maximum. I don’t see a minimum. Maybe YOU need to take a new drivers test

    [0]
  16. If your somewhat bright you’ll stay to the Right !!! Avoid the aggressive drivers!!

    [0]
  17. Maybe this person should try taking a different route. SMH or slow down whats the rush

    [0]
  18. Kathleen Rae Kathleen Rae says:

Only Quebec has maximum and minimum speed limits, Alberta doesn’t.

    [0]
    • Rye Weskey Rye Weskey says:

But if you drop under the intended speed limit by a certain amount you need to drive in the right lane with your hazard lights ON, to warn other drivers of your inability to drive like a normal human being. Read your drivers manual again. You can get one from a registry if needed.

      [0]
  19. Can you imagine if everyone drove the same speed? How congested roads would be? Quit policing people on the speed they drive and just get out of that lane, it prevents traffic congestion and traffic congestion causes accidents! It isn’t rocket science.

    [0]
  20. Sean Ricky Olive why are so many people dumb?

    [0]
  21. it’s 100 in best conditions. Alberta rarely has best conditions. There are 3 lanes. Calm your tits or get in one of the other lanes.

    [0]
    • 3? Where do you live. On the south side it’s 2 and people in both lanes do 80 or under. Then watch people try and merge doing 60. It’s great in the morning. Idiot drivers all over.

      [0]
    • I agree that those going under the speed limit and not passing should stay to the right. I live in the west end and there’s 3 lanes in almost every part of the henday I’ve been to, including south side. However someone who is in the right lane flashign their high beams, honking and being an all around jerk is just as useless as the person doing 80 in the left lane.

      [0]
    • That road can easily handle 130-140 km/h speeds !
Is no different then most European highways where speed is anything between 110-140 km/
Everyone should be smart enough to drive accordingly to road conditions no matter what speed they can go

      [0]
    • The sheer number of people in the ditch on/around henday after it snows says they aren’t and that’s why we have a lower speed limit. This wasn’t a conversation of what the speed limit should be, it was a conversation regarding going slower than the speed LIMIT [not requirement, limit] and if that is acceptable. it is if the road conditions require it and if you stay to the right, in my opinion.

      [0]
    • I should add to all this that I go the speed limit unless it’s a really bad day and I still get honked at and headlight flashes. There are speed traps all over that road, people are just never happy no matter what you do.

      [0]
    • The police chief himself has petitioned for the speed limit to be raised to 110. If you can’t do that on an average day, you should stay in the right lane or at home.

      [0]
    • Can you read? Because I commented on all that already.

      [0]
    • Most likely doing 120 and thinks it is 100, therefore the person doing 80 is actually doing 100.

      [0]
    • It’s the passing lane. If they’re doing 100 and PASSING the people to the right they have every right to be there and you should calm your ‘I have a teenieweenie’ truck rage down and go the speed limit and if you can’t then stop being an asshat to the people correctly using the passing lane.
Don’t be a knob. And read my comments before mansplaining (incorrectly I might add) how to drive to me. Thanks.

      [0]
    • Brian Booth Brian Booth says:

My comment wasn’t towards you Krista it was towards Linda above me. Maybe you should take your own advice and read before “mansplaining” and assuming I have “teenieweenie” truck rage

      [0]
    • Brian Booth Brian Booth says:

Also did you use the word “mansplaining” because I explained something and you assumed I’m a man, because in that case not only are you sexist but you’re also inconsiderate for assuming my gender. It’s 2017 stop labelling people Krista

      [0]
    • Poor white man doesn’t like when people point out his flaws. Don’t get mad because I’m right and you have no actual rebuttal but ‘no, you!’
It’s mansplaining because you’re so proud of your own knowledge (which is wrong.) that you don’t bother to read what I write and tell me how I need to correct my behavior to make you happy.
Get a fucking grip. I am always baffled when women put up with manbabies like you. Poor girl. Good luck.

      [0]
    • Brian Booth Brian Booth says:

Doesn’t matter if they’re going 120 or not. If there is someone behind you in the left lane and you’re going slower than them and you refuse to get in the right lane because of your high and mighty attitude then you’re part of the problem

      [-1]
  22. Chris Hubick Chris Hubick says:

RCMP say many drivers are not aware of the laws prohibiting driving slowly in the left, or passing, lane. “You cannot be travelling under the speed limit and obstructing traffic,” Const. Gord Buck with Spruce Grove and Stony Plain RCMP said. In Alberta, the fine ranges from $115 and two demerits, to a $172 ticket. – https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/alberta-officials-watching-b-c-gov-t-crackdown-on-slow-drivers-in-passing-lane-1.2264837

  23. Dear Edmonton drivers,

    1) stay out of passing lanes

    2) impedance of traffic can be penalized just as much as speeding

    3) turn your lights on at dusk. Or for the people that clearly have more money than brains, the auto setting for your headlights works just as well.

    4) GTFO the left lane for anyone wishing to pass you.

    Sincerely, every sensible driver.

Ps- speeding doesn’t get you killed. Amazing, I know.

    [0]
  26. Its max 100! Legally, they can go slower than 80, dummy. lol.

    [0]
    • Lynn Meger Lynn Meger says:

Actually, legally they can’t. It’s called impeding traffic, and if they’re going to go that much slower than the speed limit they need to have their hazard lights on and stay in the far right lane.

And while you are doing the speed limit to what the weather allows…..put your mascara down and pay attention…… yes… traveled on it yesterday and today, young lady was putting on her mascara with one hand… and with the other, she was steering while holding a cell phone and you could tell she was talking. She was the only one in the vehicle.

chicken shits on city roads can’t even drive 40, in a 50 or 60 zone, Alberta drivers are some of the worst in Canada. No wonder there are people speeding up to get the fuck away from all you shitty drivers.

    [0]
  38. There are too many lanes merging and exiting. Slower traffic is better off in the middle lane in the 3 lane sections and right in the 2 lane sections. But people are too F’n dumb to do the speed limit on any of the average roads in the city, so I think this is asking a little much.

    [0]
  39. Omg as someone who doesn’t live in Edmonton but drives there lots ! It drives me crazy how slow everyone drives … but I get it. There is a photo radar at every corner. Everyone is too scared to drive the speed limit. Brutal

    [0]
  40. The limit is for ideal road conditions NOT the speed limit if you drive like an idiot and tailgate swerve around drivers who are driving w due care and attention.

    [0]
  41. There are more than one lane for a reason. Slow traffic ought to keep on the right lane. It is not the minimum speed limit but s maximum. 80 is fine specially in icy road. If someone goes 50-60 it is too slow unless they have a reason such as car malfunction or a sudden medical incident.
