Bonnie Doon and Parking

Bonnie Doon mall recently posted “no parking” signs within the parking lot with a 3 hour maximum time. They’ve done this to deter park and riders. I sorta get it. But is it necessary?

Are they really concerned about the lost stalls when no one even goes to that mall anymore?

I could understand it if there were stores inside that made shoppers interested but they offer unheard of shops and kiosks.

They’ve started giving out tickets for those who exceed the 3 hours. You’d be hard pressed to spend more than 1 hour there!

  1. It’s their parking lot and they can enforce any rules they want, just be glad they don’t tow you also

They are doing that because the city is putting a huge LRT access at Bonnie Doon. Park & riders, long using BD as a junction point, will now come even more since the train can take them across the city faster than then the bus’s could.

Westmount, Southgate, Kingsway and Northtown all enforce it. Get used to it… property is way too valuable to give it away to people who aren’t there to shop.

  7. If you don’t feel like you can spend an hour at the mall then you have nothing to worry about. Maybe they are trying to show potential clients that there is enough parking for their customers. And it is their right, I take my daughter there weekly to bowl on Saturday and like the knowing that next year when I have two children that there will be parking when I need it. I am waiting to hear that Millwoods Town Centre and businesses in the area are doing this.

  8. Most parking lots have a parking time limit to stop people from parking and riding the bus. Just be glad they didn’t do like they did in Sherwood Park Synergy Centre which is a doctors offices etc. They had that problem and now charge people to park to go to the doctor, dentist, lab, and anything else in the building.

  9. Let me guess, you park there and jump on the bus and now you’re mad because you can no longer park there?

  11. It’s a private lot that is provided for the convenience of their customers. They probably feel it’s unfair to give away parking for nothing.

If you’re hard pressed to spend an hour there, then why does it matter if they’re ticketing after three hours? Clearly if a shopper can’t spend that kind of time at that location, then they are targeting the right people – the offenders.

I don’t understand. Why can’t someone just ask a general question on here without people jumping down their throat? Everyone is so eager to bash the OP; ready and with cocked guns of insults. I don’t get it.

People/taxpayers should be able to park for free anywhere tax funds have been used for funding.

  18. I have been to malls that say they will ticket after a certain timeframe, but not one has been able to prove that I have exceeded said time… I keep track of my arrival time with my phone, and whe nI find a ticket on my window, I take it to management and discuss it with them; they have always cancelled the ticket… only once has a ticket issuer tried ot argue with me, only to get the respone of ” see you in court” as I walk away

Well – Im with you. They should be glad to create the illusion that this is a mall of consequence. #BonnieDoom All these shopping centres go in cycles. Bonnie Doon is definitely at a low at the moment. Be glad of cars parking and preserving the impression that people still shop there.

  25. Worst mall in Edmonton, I don’t think so. What about Westmount. Without Safeway and the dollarama there would he nothing but a food court.

  26. Kingsway has this too it’s actually a bylaw. Because a lot of people from nait used to park in the mall parking lots. And bonniedoon is doing this now so people get the memo once the new lrt line is out there. So there’s no park n riders. There’s lrt stations for park n riders and it’s monthly fees parking in a mall parking lot and not being in the mall is giving them what money? Not a customer don’t park there find some where else to park, keep your car home and bus or drive your car to where your going and pay the parking fees there simple as that.
