Warning this will be a very long post….
And I have spoken to the labour board because of the way the company has their contracts worded it is a grey zone so they are completely allowed to do this….
I went to a career fair for Paladin Security on September 13th, and was hired on the spot, for a Parking Bylaw position… so the employer knew exactly what I looked like, that I was in a car accident but have been cleared to return to work, and that I had also been off on maternity leave.
Fast forward to September 20-21-22 I was in class doing “training” that in my opinion truly believe needs to be updated as it doesn’t follow very many of the current guidelines, and they I believe again in my opinion receive a “training bonus” from the client ( the person who contracts this company to do the parking enforcement). The 23rd of September I went out into the field writing practice tickets, and identifying different situations where a ticket or a warning would be needed, 8 hours of walking I definitely felt it but I handled it well, and was excited to continue. I had the 24th and 25th of September off and returned to work the 26th and 27th to do the exact same thing as I had done on the 23rd just with different trainers, truthfully only one trainer took serious time to explain any questions to me, and go over everything in great detail, for his training I was thankful. So within those two days, I was walking 13-15km a day also trying to keep up with another individuals speed of walking so of course my feet were swollen by the end of day 2, I came in the 28th wrote the exam and passed with flying colours, and was ALLOWED, to go home to rest as it was not told prior that we HAD to stay to finish out the day with more “training” so I left 2 hours early.
On the 29th of September I was taken by the Contract Manager to the Client to be sworn in as a Officer for the city, everything went smooth and I believed there was nothing wrong, I had booked the rest of that day off due to an appointment that I could not miss, and it was for a nerve block due to my car accident. I had September 30th and October 1 off as per the schedule.
I came in on October 2nd after spending all weekend buying things to prepare for my upcoming important roll, proper orthotics, compression stockings, and a few more items for winter, as I was going to ask a question I was told I was not going out right away that I was needing in a meeting, of course my first thought is oh ***** what did I do? Thinking and thinking I couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong in such a short period of time.
I go into this meeting with the Contract manager and someone I had never seen before only to be told they were terminating my employment that I was not fit enough for the position, and that me not being able to keep up to SENIOR officers walking paces likely meant I would not be able to handle the daily quota they want for tickets. So not only did this individual say I wasn’t skinny or fit enough ( I am by far not the biggest individual there) they also basically said they didn’t believe I could do it, well I asked if I haven’t been given the chance to on my own yet, how would you know I wouldn’t be able to do the job? And my question was met with “ I am not at liberty to answer any questions you may have at this time” and told to hand in my uniform and leave the building, when I voiced I did not agree to them taking off the “training amount” of 500$ since they had choose to fire me right after training me ( it has come to light I am 1 of 7 they have done this too in this specific contract), that I had not been given the chance to show or prove anything, they have jumped to the conclusion based off my weight, I was told too bad you signed the contract stating we could and we will regardless.
So I will post the pay stub and the contract which because of their specific wording they are allowed to get away with it, so not only do they get paid from the client to train people as a training allowance ( third party information I’ve been told and cannot confirm they get this), they also deduct it from hard working individuals, and their training is nothing special it’s the same as any other job, you get shown how to do your job, so why would that cost 500$? They don’t give you anything special. This company also states if you get any training ( first aid , WHIMIS, Pro serve) outside of their “trainer” you will not be allowed to use it and have to retake their training anyways.
These individuals have essentially been getting free labour from the people they hire, and then immediately fire, and they believe it’s right… there is an election coming up and I believe that it’s time that a new council come in and go over this company with a fine tooth comb because they need to see exactly what is happening…. so with me being the 7th person that is 3500$ of free labour…. they didn’t do anything we put in the time, we paid over 100$ in parking as they do not give you a parking pass or a reduced rate even though they are given parking stalls by the place they’re office is in, they waste our time, and some of us turn down much better companies and positions as we are loyal and do not want to leave anyone high and dry…
I believe everyone deserves to know this, those companies that pay for your training, and your licensing and everything, or the companies that require you to sign a contract stating they pay for your training and you must stay for x amount of time of you have to pay them back, don’t waste your time with them. You are far better off to find a company who values you as an individual, as an employee, a company who has the opportunity to give you advancement and where you will not be judged and discriminated against based on anything about your persons.
I feel extremely wronged so do the other individuals who have had this happen… and sadly its not just this contract manager who has done this, it’s a lot of them they do it to be able to deduct the finances again getting free labour ( third party information I’ve been told and seen the pay statements and employment records to confirm)
I can only post 1 photo or I would post the pay stub showing, earnings of just about 900$, paid 340$….
