Condo board fun suckers

I wanted to post a positive shoutout to the guys in my complex who on their own time and dime, used their snowblowers to blow the snow in our little common area into a nice little snow hill for the kids to play on. There’s been tons of kids including mine that have gotten much enjoyment out of this and have been happily sliding off and tunneling through it.

Of course my condo board association “amethyst managemt” can’t let anyone enjoy anything so today it was demolished. It wasn’t blocking any walkways, it wasn’t super big and unsafe but nope it got taken away. Meanwhile the property manager Debbie funnels condo fees to paying her family members to “do work” around the complex but they actually do no maintenance at all or very poorly.

I’m really angry about this and she never returns my calls. She cut down all our trees a few years ago too for no reason whatsoever. We can’t have anything nice or fun in our complex. Ridiculous and stupid

  1. I am a condo owner, and until a few months ago, our Board President. I finally gave up when our contract property mgr decided that there was too much “garbage” in the store rooms, and proceeded to get rid out all of it without the Board approval. All of our gardening equipment, because she decided to hire out the maintenance service, and much of this equipment was less than a year old, and I still hold copies of the receipts. She even tried to sell our 2K snowblower machine to another complex in her realm, for 200.00. The machine is 2 yrs old. Luckily I had the opportunity to copy the security footage from our cameras, as she still maintains that everything that was hauled away was garbage.. Of the 17 “owners” in our 29 unit complex, at most only 2 or 3 owners think tht she is doing a good job. It has even got to the point that she will not allow the Board to view the billings before receipts are paid. Her words…” you will just have to trust us”. Testimonials online are NOT good,

Why aren’t your board signing cheques? We do at our condo complex. We see the bills and sign the cheques. You can tell your property manager what YOU want to do. Don’t let them dictate

You have to be nominated to be on the board, then the owners vote on who is on the board. It’s usually a pretty cliquey group. There should be a law that their is a body in place to mediate board decisions you don’t agree upon.

Do your research before purchasing a condo, you want the freedom to make your own personal decisions about your property then do not buy a condo as they are run by a board and you will definitely not agree with every decision made. That is the tradeoff.

  7. sounds like my condo board. The president has his wife hired as the maintenance worker (she does nothing) and he approved her to get a raise every year

  8. Unfortunately, because we live in a time where nobody has to take responsibility for their own actions, and because if a child breaks their arm somebody MUST be punished for it, you can’t have anything like this hill. The property Management Company AND the members of the Condo Board will all be sued if anybody gets hurt.
As for them hiring family, etc. Your best solution is to run for a position on your board. You will then have a say in what happens, and who gets hired for what.

  9. I have dealt with Debbie from Amethyst for over 6 years now and have had some good and some bad experience with her. And sometimes she can be a majorly rude bitch. But the majority I’ve asked of her has eventually gotten done. With exception to a few things. But u just have to really push her and follow up non stop if u want things to get done. Be polite but serious and to the point. Trust me I’ve wanted to lose my shit on her many times and had to hold back cuz I know I’m gonna have to deal with her for a while. And always email instead of call. She hates calls. And having a written record of anything is always my preference anyways cuz then I have proof if they didn’t do something important or major that was asked of them. As I pay condo fees just like everyone else for them to take care of their responsibilities every day/ week/ month. OP I’m wondering if u live in the same development as I do. Inbox me if u need any tips for dealing with her! LOL

While I can understand the frustration, there are always two sides to every story. As the Vice President on a condo board, we have to make hard decisions all the time that better our community. One suggestion I have if you have issues with the board and property manager, attend the next AGM and become a board member and have a voice.

In my condo board, the treasurer told me last month that there is over 170K missing since the new Prez took over! Not only that, there is a new mngmt team and the supervisor of that company told me that all records for requests for repairs were not handed over to them and the Prez is acting like our constantly breaking down elevator is new! Can you say, “Criminal Investigation”??!!! Also, the condo owners are NOT allowed to attend AGM meetings! Fraud!!!
