Does Merry Christmas really Offend you?

I am curious if people are really offended by the use of Merry Christmas? I mean we are all aware there are many different religious beliefs out there and I just want to see if this is higher ups over thinking things and assuming or if people really are offended by specific greetings. I would wish someone a Merry Christmas but if you wished me a Happy Hanukkah I would definitely not think you were trying to hurt me. I would smile and say it back to you.

Has this world really come to nit picking and assuming we are being offensive and or racist? Why would anyone find fault with someone greeting you based on their own personal choice of saying? It not like they are demanding you change your beliefs, is it suddenly disallowed to express our own? So please comment on this post if a certain saying actually offends you and why, or saying it doesn’t offend you at all. Show of hand people?

I hear people complaining about people being offended by Merry Christmas, but I’ve never actually heard of anyone being offended by Merry Christmas. People just look for stuff to complain about, and if they don’t find anything they make it up 🙂

  4. I’ve been saying it to ALL races this month. I don’t mind if they respond with Happy Holidays or Happy Christmas. Not offended with how anyone wishes one another or celebrates the holidays. 🙂

  5. I say merry Christmas because that’s the holiday I celebrate. I haven’t come across anyone yet who was offended.

  6. I have never heard of anyone being offended by hearing “Merry Christmas.” I’m thinking it’s mostly the result of conservative rhetoric that is trying to convince people that refugees/immigrants are trying to change our ways of life.

    • Put yourself in their shoes because your country is killing just because of beliefs!!! If it happened nd it is happening in the USA nd now they are saying fake news! We all know the elite rule the world nd at the end they think only they are left in their bunkers, meanwhile they are using tax payers $ to dig holes in the earth!!

I don’t think anyone gets offended. I think people make this shit up to stir the pot or some people just feel the need to be offended on behalf on someone else just to be politically correct.

  10. It’s people thinking it may offend other people, so they try and tip toe around while creating a problem that never existed in the first place.

  11. I’ve been wished a Merry Christmas by people of all different backgrounds for the last few weeks. Still trying to figure out who these “offended ” people are because clearly I haven’t come across any! Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone!!!

  12. As someone who was in the hotel business for over a decade, had staff and guests of all kinds from all areas of the globe and I NEVER come across Someone offended by Merry Christmas, or any other holiday greeting for that matter.

I don’t believe this is at all an issue, just a glorified “controversy” that does nothing but spread hate and intolerance….

I have always wondered this, At one point i worked in retail and at Christmas time we were asked to choose music selections very carefully so the term ” Merry Christmas” was not in the song among other stipulations. But i have yet to meet someone who was actually offended by it.

  16. No this is all false. It’s a rumour started by some racist ignorant dumbass. I have never met a single person, white, black Jewish or Muslim that was offended by Merry Christmas.

  17. I’m an atheist as well. It takes a whole lot to offend me. That doesn’t even come close.

  19. Just remember this.

Those who tell us not to say Merry Christmas are by default themselves racists.

Flip back on them and then ask them how it feels.

  20. I dunno.. I have been telling every single client I have seen all month “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” before they left and I haven’t had one person not say it back, or seem annoyed or angry.
Seems a petty thing to be triggered by honestly

  21. My personal opininion is that very few people are offended with Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukka, Joyous Kwanzaa, etc. The issue is constantly being riled up by the media when they focus on a selected incident. It ensures that public focus is directed away from occurances that won’t benefit our communities or the public in general (i.e. the behind the scenes handshake deals which harm the environment, etc.). It is a type of propoganda to instill fear and perpetuate racial tensions therefore keeping the masses unaware of actual dangers.

  22. I’ve yet to meet anyone offended by Merry Christmas except for white Christians who simply don’t want anyone else using it. Its pathetic really.

I am seriously tired of the Merry Christmas’ers trying to make a big friggin deal of this every year. I have never heard of anyone being offended by Merry Christmas. No one gives a rats ass what you say as long as it’s not “go f yourself”. Just stop bringing it up. Reminds me of fetch in Mean Girls.

  30. Honestly I think the government created this whole thing. Government went and said hey you can’t put merry Christmas on the ets buses or that schools couldn’t have proper Xmas trees or sing actual Xmas carols at the Christmas concerts so naturally people assumed that it was because people were offended.

    [0]
    • My daughters School has an Xmas tree…they sang Xmas carols at her concert.

      [0]
    • My sisters school can’t have a Xmas tree and they can’t sing even sing Merry Christmas, they were told to find a new song that says happy holidays. We used to sing angels we have heard on high, away in a manger etc none of it is allowed because of the religion difference. When I was a kid we had kids of all backgrounds singing the same songs and no one was upset and if parents disapproved of the Christmas concert they were simply told they could keep child home no problem.

  37. In 16 years working customer service jobs, I’ve never had anyone mad at me for saying “merry Christmas”. I’ve had two instances of people threatening violence over “happy holidays” though. Now I try to avoid saying anything unless the other person says something first.

    [0]
    • If somebody gets affended by Happy Holidays simply remind them that you probably wouldn’t have seen them till after the New Years and you wanted to keep your basses covered lol

  39. I think the media makes it a big deal when it’s really not. I was in a pizza place owned by an East Indian family….and they had Merry Christmas signs up. No one gets offended about Hindu, Jewish, or any other holiday that we see signs for all the time. If people are offended it’s a very small percentage.

  40. This is Canada like it or not. I understand other cultures followings, beliefs and religions but I am a firm believer in following the cultures of the country you live in also. If I didn’t follow the rules in some other country I could have my hand cut off or even death. It’s a holiday so why make a big deal over what or how people express it to each other. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

  42. Merry Christmas actually is the belief of a higher power who wrote the bible so we wouldnt be crazy! Fast forward … all wars are a result of religious wars… thats why I lost faith! I only believe in true unconditional love nd positive prayers sent!!! Because we are all Human in the end!!!

    [0]
  43. Thats why Im not in any denomination church these end days I only believe in higher positive energy power! Nd was proven when a human being dies the body shows the pinutal gland leave! I know i maybe spelled it wrong but it was proven a body loses a certain weight

  44. I don’t have any specific beliefs but if someone were to wish me happy holidays, merry Christmas, happy Diwali or Hanukkah I wouldn’t care. The fact they are going out of their way to give me good wishing is good enough for me. I have friend who celebrate different holidays than I. In the end most holidays are very much the same. It’s about people getting together and being joyous. So merry Christmas, happy new year, joyous Kwanzaa and happy holidays.

  45. No one is offended by it. It’s just propaganda meant to make people hate.
