Dogs at Taste of Edmonton

To the idiots that think they have to bring your dogs to Taste of Edmonton… please don’t!

I saw a lady with a small Yorkie..so stressed out and hot the tongue was hanging out. And another idiot with a Great Dane doing a leash pop every few steps!!!

First off get a trainer that can teach you how to walk your dog…and second why the hell would you bring a dog to a venue like Taste of Edmonton on such a hot day?

Do you think they really enjoy it? I bet the couch would be way more appealing then weaving through hundreds of people and being leash popped every two steps! Sad…

Most dogs would enjoy it I bet. Watch out for the dogs can’t go out in public thing. There’s already way to many places people can’t bring their dogs.

    • Dogs don’t enjoy being dragged every where. Even service animals do not lead the good life every one thinks they do. They do a job and are trained to do it. Wouldn’t dream of taking my dogs to an event like that. If you have to leash pop that’s not training…it’s abuse!

    • Dogs aren’t allowed at Taste of Edm. It’s a health code violation.

  2. Can’t stand when I see leash popping!!

Maybe he was training his dog to behave in public places hence the ‘leash pops’. My dog has separation anxiety and doesn’t like to be at home alone. She actually harms herself when she is left alone. We utilize dog daycare but if we are going somewhere that allows dogs we bring our dog. I probably wouldn’t bring her to taste of Edmonton but wouldn’t judge others who do.

    • Leash pops do more harm to a dogs neck than teach them anything.. It’s not appropriate to think a leash pop does anything to teach them how to walk properly.

I’m not him so I wouldn’t know what his strategy was. But that wasn’t the point.

Dogs were not allowed according to website

    • Ashley have you tried a Thunder vest for your dog for when you leave? Heard some great things about it for separation anxiety.

Loreli Hornby she was actually fine after a lot of work with her for the last 4 years. But my other dog passed two weeks ago and she is having some trouble dealing with it and being alone without her. I feel like only time and a lot of love is gonna heal that for her ❤️

THIS! Your dog does NOT need to go every where you do, they’re not children despite you thinking so.

    • Too bad people say the same thing about children, too

    • If dogs are allowed and it’s safe for them temp wise…..why not bring them? However, clearly dogs were not suppose to be there. I am not sure if all ppl bring their dog places cause they feel the dog is their kid, I think it’s because they are responsible pet owners and their dog enjoys going out probably more then their kids do lol. But people who “think” their dog is social and well behaved when it’s not…..that’s annoying.

  5. Actually, dogs are not permitted unless they are service animals…. http://tasteofedm.ca/about/frequently-asked-questions

I’m sure most people don’t care what your opinion is on the subject. I think popping by taste of Edmonton with your dog is a great way to teach how to behave in public. I’m sure they weren’t there for hours and hours. And as long as they’re being offered water when needed, it’s all good. Summer = heat (except for today!) and part of enjoying summer is being out and about with your dog.

  7. I would rather someone bring there dog with them then leave them alone all day

  8. Call the by law dogs are not allowed where food is for sale. Hate it when people bring animals to the farmers market. If I see you and your pet where they don’t belong you can be sure I will call.

Farmers markets are set up in a dirty parking lot (usually) Id bet the dogs are cleaner than where all this so called food is even set up to begin with. Plus there is no bylaw stating dogs are not allowed in parking lots or on city streets. So go ahead and call… a farmers market is not a permanent established business.

Except the farmers market on whyte ave I’m pretty sure is an established thing it’s open like the flea market….and the flea market on whyte ave is kind of an indoors location …..

Id rather have the dogs there and all of the people stay at home lol

  11. Lucky I was not there to see the leash pops cause he would have gotten a pop himself! That’s horrible! It’s not a way to train

  12. As much as I love my dog, I agree and your dog doesnt need to go there We actually took ours there one year and never again. It was no fun for her. We stayed away from where the food was, it was hot, too many people. Not a place for dogs OR kids. And I agree, the kids are more annoying than the dogs.

  13. These are also the same people who probably don’t realize that you’re not even supposed to have dogs at the ToE anyways.

  14. The same with the Art Walk on Whyte. It was nearly 30 C. Just because HART had a booth to get your dog’s paws in paint doesn’t mean it was safe for your dog. Anyways HART does not know what they are doing which means they should have never had a booth there!!

  15. Maybe YOU should stay at home if you don’t want to be around dogs. What a useless rant.

    • Dogs are not allowed to be there, it’s in the Taste of Edmonton rules. I am a huge dog lover but that doesn’t mean dogs should be brought everywhere. Especially hot crowded areas where they’re not supposed to be in the first place. I also saw a long haired yorkie looking visibly stressed out by the crowds the other day, I wonder if it was the same dog. Really not cool to expose a pet to that.

    • It’s been smokey and hot my dog has been suffering too and I haven’t take. Him anywhere! I think this post is more about compassion for idiots who walk their pets in 30 degree weather burning there pads of there feet in concrete

    • Plus he has asthma so I get it totally

Why do all the “I take my dog everywhere!” people completely ignore the part where dogs aren’t allowed at that specific event in the first place?

  19. Seen a pitbull there … im not scared of them but is them bringing one to start something or just what is that a controversial situation, and a family public event. Kinda seems like trolling to me.

So I don’t own a dog I understand what leash popping is but if learning popping is not good then what would the appropriate training technique be?

  21. My dog would be thrilled to see all the people. He loves that shit. But I’ve never thought to bring my dogs to taste of Edmonton. They’d be happier at the park.

  22. Some people go to events like this specifically to try to train their dogs. A guy brought a puppy to the carnival, pulled him from one group of people to the next then dragged him to his truck practically choking him. Some people shouldn’t even be allowed to own animals. I think officers need to watch for this at events as well, I’ve seen too many instances of abuse from owners getting angry at their pets.

BTW I love dogs just take them to the dog park

  24. Part of dog training and socialization is GETTING THEM OUT and into public situations while you can still control them.
Panting due to heat is NOT the owners fault … my apartment gets HOTTER in the Summer-so I take my two dogs everywhere I can.
I can’t wait to run into you at the next festival we hit up!
    Keep enjoying your summer.
