Donating Breastmilk

I have lots of breastmilk which I’ve pumped and stored in a deep freezer in breastmilk storage bags (about 250 bags if not more, and minimum 4 oz in each bag).

I’m still producing lots and I don’t need the frozen milk, I would like to donate it.

Does anyone know of a place to donate breastmilk to?

I would love to donate to premature babies.

  6. There’s a clinic run in Calgary that Edmonton drops off there to be tested cleaned ext and brings it back for babies in the nicu. It was a life saver when my premature baby was born. Liquid gold. I’m not sure if you can donate what you’ve already frozen if you can not I’d love a little for my daughter I’ve run dry. If you can donate what’s frozen that is amazing for all those little ones and there will be very many thankful mothers for a little kindness in such a scary time when breast milk and skin to skin contact are the only way to help them as a mum.

  7. I donated breastmilk, there is a program that is ran out of the grey nuns hospital that you can do. At a little legwork to donate but it’s worth it! Good job

Contact the grey nuns or Calgary milk bank. That stuff is liquid gold for the preemies in the nicu and a lot of the moms have issues with milk supply due to the combo of it being early in the pregnancy and the stress.

I believe before donating to the hospital program there is a process and a number of rules to follow (everything sterilized every time. What you are consuming. Etc). After donating the milk is pasteurized and given to those who need. If they can/will take it awesome.
That said there are definitely people who would be interested privately as you’ve already seen. Mom’s groups. Through SOE. There is most definitely a need for it and I think it’s wonderful you’re looking for a way to help!

I know you mentioned that you are looking to donate to premature babies/milk bank, but I seek donations through eats on feets and human milk for human babies and I’d love to have some milk from you if you’d be okay with that ☺

Amber-Dawn – lactation can be induced even if you’ve never been pregnant, but it takes time and dedication to do it. You should talk to the le leche league – they’ll be able to help. Good luck!

Contact Northern Star Milk Bank. They have a dropoff location right in the Lois Hole hospital. They donate to nicu babies after everything is thoroughly tested. I don’t know how long the milk can be in storage for though, so best to contact them directly

  31. It’s very common to donate breast milk.
Great for women with lactation issues or preemies.

    [0]
  32. Besides! That is exactly what a wet nurse is. They breast feed other people’s babies.
Which was very common until recently.
    (Still common in other countries)

I don’t know how you go about it but my twins were premies and born in grey nuns we we offered from the nicu the option for while they in the nicu that they give donated breast milk. There are screenings and what not and the milk is pasteurized.. but check there
