Feeding the homeless

My kids and I are handing out lunches and winter gear to the homeless next weekend. We would like to hit the ice district, but I’ve also heard that there are some people in Old Strathcona that might be able to use a lunch as well.

Any idea where the best place to start would be In that area?

  1. Lots of homeless panhandlers on any busy intersection these days. Southgate, Whitemud/Calgary Trail Northgate, Century Park areas.

I can tell you where not to go. In front of the safe injection sites. The poli e should be there charging everyone that walks in there.

The Neighbors Centre also has winter hours but I do not know when they start this year

Many congregate in the park beside the library. In the gazebo.

There is an Edmonton group Called Smile-Edmonton. If you as them they might be able to help you out. They set up every Sunday night outside the homeless shelter

The Neighbours Centre owned by The Mustard Seed. Right behind the A & W at Whyte Avenue and 101 Street. Think their hours right now are 1-4 Monday to Friday

From 82 Ave and 99 st to Safeway on 109 st. From 109 st and all the way north of 82 ave would be ur best bet. Your so awesome to do this. This city needs more people like you. Thanks for being you.

Check behind the pearl on Jasper ave (119st+), there’s a dumpster there where a guy tents out at, because of a heat vent on the brick building behind it. He’s usually there all night and into the early hours (8-10), before he takes all his stuff and goes for the day. Behind the Ice district is tent city.
I’ve noticed tents near the west side of a building called the Valhalla.. Just drive around downtown, you won’t have a hard.time finding people to give warm food to.

  8. The youth emergency shelter would be a great place to start. If you give them a call they may know of the best place to go in that area as well.

Thank you for thinking of those who are less fortunate.
