Hair Damage; Be Warned

To everyone in Edmonton, so on Monday November 28 it was not a good day for me instead an awful day. I went in to Pure Platinum Spa and Salon to get my hair done, so ill tell you the whole story. Last week on Monday November 21 I was booked for a haircut and balayage ombre hair color, first they didn’t even have me on the list but they still took me in, the lady and her boss (I think she was the boss because she was constantly checking and telling her what to do) anyway they helped me and started doing my hair.

I had shown her a picture of what I wanted, something similar to it but not exactly the same, the results that came out I didn’t like it and I was honest and told her. I wanted something blonde ash and it was more yellow orange, so then another lady came and did my haircut and then the other girl came and told me they were booking me for another appointment to get the color right and so she booked me in for Wednesday.. although I had asked her if it was ok to do my hair again within such a short period of time and if it was not going to be damaged and she said “no it will be fine we want you to be happy and we will get the color right next time”. Well they booked me for Wednesday November 23. I had come in and turned out they canceled my appointment because the one that was doing it had called in sick so they booked me in again for Monday November 28.

I went in at 10am and the one girl started working on my hair, I once again showed her the picture and she said “yes I will give you that color” she started bleaching my hair which she used a 40 DEVELOPER 😱 of which I didn’t know and left it in more than an hour. Well she washed my hair and the other girl came over and they started talking in their language which I found rude but whatever. She brought in the color and both started putting it in literally left the product for like 5 mins and then started washing it off, left to help another lady that arrived and had left me with the other girl. When she showed me the hair and said it looks beautiful, I literally started crying inside, it came out to be BRIGHT ORANGE, YELLOW ENDS AND FALLING LIKE CRAZY AND I MEAN CHUNKS OF HAIR FALLING OFF MY HEAD! I told her I didn’t like it, that it wasn’t what I have shown them and that I wasn’t expect it to be the same but similar.

I got up and went to the front and they were going to charge me extra to which I refused to pay and told her that I wasn’t going to pay because I now have to go straight to a different salon to get my hair corrected. I grabbed my jacket and left. THEY HAVE ALSO BURNT MY SCALP DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF THE DEVELOPER, Edmontonians I do not recommend PURE PLATINUM SPA AND SALON, IM SORRY FOR THE LONG RANT BUT I FEEL YOU ALL NEED TO KNOW THIS SO IT WON’T HAPPEN TO YOU! I CRIED ALL DAY MONDAY BECAUSE OF IT, I AM SOMEONE THAT TAKES A LOT OF CARE OF MY HAIR. FOR SOMEONE TO JUST PUT HANDS IN IT AND DESTROY JUST TO GET MONEY OUT OF ONE PERSON. THANK YOU FOR READING AND PLEASE SHARE THIS TO GET THE WORD OUT THERE ABOUT THIS SALON. BELOW IS A PICTURE OF MY HAIR WHEN I WENT IN AND HOW THEY LEFT IT AFTER THE 2 PROCESSES.

  1. Get over it. I saw a guy sleeping on the street and with no place to even wash his hair. So get over your little hair fiasco and start to worry about real problems

This complaint is a bit shallow and a bit racist.

    • It has nothing to do with being racist, don’t be so overly sensitive ….. People in service industry should not use their own language…. It’s just rude !
Not nice, anyone who doesn’t understand what’s being said would get suspicious and uncomfortable.
      Stop flashing that racism card.

      [2]
    • When you’re at a place where English is primarily spoken but then employees talk amongst each other in their own language, that is a bit rude. Especially if you can tell they are talking about you. At no point did she say she had a problem with these ladies or that she was racist.

      [1]
    • Karolina i agree, it is not racist. It is incredibly rude of them to be discussing anything in front of the client in another language. Very rude!

      [1]
    • The only time she mentioned they were foreign/spoke another language is when she felt that the conversation between them was probably directed at her and the situation. If they were chatting before that bad situation in their foreign tongue, she probably wouldn’t have cared. But the context, to the OP, made her feel very uncomfortable, especially with how her hair turned out.

      [1]
    • Dean Klassen Dean Klassen says:

mmmmm, I really don’t see how its rude. I really wouldn’t care what they are talking about… in any language.

      [0]
    • Dean Klassen haha, right.

      [0]
    • YOU don’t see how it’s rude. maybe just MAYBE someone else does. But we’re not talking about YOU.

      [0]
    • Dean Klassen Dean Klassen says:

What if the other person wasn’t proficient at english yet.. and the only to tell her what to do was in their language?

      [0]
    • I think it’s rude when English people go to other places like France and do that..

      [0]
    • Dean Klassen i am definitely not racist since I come from another country where my main language is not English, I found it rude that they were talking right in front of me when they were doing my hair and they knew it was going wrong.

      [0]
    • Dean Klassen Dean Klassen says:

Sorry, that wasn’t clear… your statement was: “she washed my hair and the other girl came over and they started talking in their language which I found rude but whatever” – you made it sound like they were just chatting…. not discussing your hair. To me it sounded like you were offended they were speaking a different language.

      [0]
    • Dean Klassen not at all, they spoke english the whole time until she washed my hair and the other lady came over to look at it and started talking in their language!

      [0]
    • Linda Riley Linda Riley says:

Dean Klassen if they cant speak english in edmonton they should not be allowed to practice or apprentice in Alberta.

  4. That’s super awful. I hope you can find someone to fix your hair. Prior your hair looked pretty healthy, they did do some obvious damage for sure. I would wait a couple weeks before you try and fix it as you don’t want to do more damage.

  14. I’m so sorry 🙁 I had a horrible hair experience a few years ago (way too short, extremely uneven, etc) and I tried SO hard not to be upset about it (telling myself it’s not a huge deal, it will grow back, it’s just hair, there are worse things) but I couldn’t help it and I cried so much. I hope it gets fixed soon!

  15. My first is wtf where they thinking using 40? And you wanted ash that would have been easy. Had they known what they were doing it would have been easily achieved. I’m so sorry that happened to you. I hate hearing these horror stories because so stylest was to proud to say she doesn’t specialize in coloring.

Now there are days that mistakes happen but to me this just sounds like incompetent asshats.

  16. I’d suggest Joico Gold line (k pack). For recovery. I have had mush for hair and that line fixed it.

    [0]
    • I wouldn’t recommend that. It has keratin and could damage more. Oil. Sleep with it it wash out in morning. Moisture masks but right no no keratin. It’s happens to me all snapped in half while she dried my hair and I’ve worked in salons for 6 years

      [0]
    • Joico k pack is designed for that, used it many times and it fixed my hair along with many of my clients from previous disasters like this.

Sorry this happened. Start using deep conditioning hair masks, coconut oil….it can help a bit. May need to trim the ends again.

Anyone that is going to a blonde needs to realize you will not see results in one visit. To do it the correct way it needs to be a process so that you DON’T damage the hair. Any reputable salon stylist should know this and inform their client of this.

  22. You never should have walked into ANY salon….your natural hair color is beautiful! All you needed was a good trim. I am sorry this happened to you though.

If you take such good care of your hair why do you not have a regular stylist? And why are you going back and forth for 10 days?? I’m sorry but if my scalp was burning for an hour I’d if said something.

Sorry this happened! Try a reputable salon and stick with it. Also you didn’t show the picture you showed them….they’re not miracle workers they’re hair stylists….

Sarah, she went to a business to have a task done that they claimed they could perform. Maybe coloring is something she has never had done before. Regardless, she trusted someone pretending to be a trained professional. She is warning others of these frauds so they don’t get burnt. It amazes me how this site attracts idiots like you

    • Erin Bridget Rose Omell thank you, yes looking into that since ive gotten so many messages from others telling me and also offering help, she uses a white bleach not blue i dont know the difference but she sure left on for about an hour and half and my hair was and still falling from the damaged, I got the colour fixed and a treatment from a very well experienced hairdresser who was willing to help me even tho she wasnt taking any new clients, but my ends are still very fried and split.

      [0]

  36. The point is that she wasn’t able to understand what they were saying. That’s why it’s relevant. It’s quite possible that they knew then that it was very damaged but continued to pour on chemicals anyway.

  38. Nikola Rae Nikola Rae says:

Not to be rude regarding this post, as i appreciate knowing what the salon did to you!

However seeing your before photo. There is no way you would get to a light blonde in one treatment. That would be at least 2-3 treatments to get the light blonde you are looking for. Another factor as well is if you previous died you hair with box die or had it done at the salon. This will change the direction of the process.

You truly should have done your home work and spoke to other salons, checked reviews, and been relentless before just handing over your hair to just anyone.

As for going back 8 days later to have your hair bleached and treated again, you never should have gone! I have used 40vol on clients before, however it is never used on there scalp! As well you need at least 4-6 weeks inbetween colorings(lighting or darkening) for hair to recover. Having that much work done with that much product, in 8 days would cause your hair to fall out and turn almost to a straw like texture!

I hope that you can get it fixed however my best suggestion would be to leave it alone, at this point, and give it sometime

    [0]
  39. Barbara McIntyre yes that was my point about the comment on them talking in their language, nothing racist at all, im glad others get the point.

  40. Everyone should read the top things hairdressers hate. You cannot go from Brown to Really Blonde in one appt. The salon you went to is a good salon. I’m pretty sure you were told they could not match the picture but you insisted the try. Anytime of Peroxide will damage your hair.
I don’t understand why you didn’t listen to their advise. Now you are trying to warn people? Seriously they don’t want to be sued. I bet you signed a release form too. If I were you I would get a box brown die and put it back to your color. It will deposit into your hair and repair it a bit.
To get the blonde you wanted would cost hundreds of dollars and more than one appt. Then in 10 days you would be complaining about roots. Streaks and gradual blonding would have been a better idea

    [0]
    • Mrs. Michelle no they didn’t, they told me they could therefore I went for it, if they have told me so I would have the chance to choose to accept it or not and I DID NOT SIGN A FORM OR ANYTHING STATING THAT THEY WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO GET IT hope this tells you somewhat that they didn’t tell me they were not able to do what I asked, besides i didn’t expect it to be the same but somewhat similar, pictures are just for an idea of what someone wants and do you think is close to what i asked? If you haven’t seen the pic of what i showed i recommend you to go down the comments and search for it and compare to what they did to my hair, also why would they book me for a second appointment to re do it if they knew they were not able to do what i have showed them? Thats what bothers me about your comment that you without being there when it happened you write “I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU DIDNT LISTEN TO THEIR ADVICE” Do you think a good salon would do what they did on my hair in the second process? Because i don’t think so, im glad you had a good service and experience there but I didn’t and i am allowed to speak out for what happened to me and im not speaking for someone else, and last of all If you see my hair from the start is not dark. And thank for the advice but I do not use box die in my hair never, I always try to go to salons to get my hair done when I am able to.

      [0]
    • Actually if her hair is uncolored and naturally that color you can achieve blonde and even close the color she wanted. Don’t it many times. It just takes longer time. Many people don’t know how to do it properly.

  41. Kayla Nohos Kayla Nohos says:

I second the comment about the olaplex! Seriously look it up, it’s a life changer!! You can use it in with the actual colouring process, but you can also use it as a weekly treatment and I believe it’s the Number 2 you would need if you’re going to use it as a treatment at home. Haven’t used it myself but here’s a link for before and afters: https://www.google.ca/search?q=olaplex&client=ms-android-bell-ca&source=lnms&prmd=isvn&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj3ntn6oNnQAhWM8oMKHfyDCmEQ_AUIBygB&biw=360&bih=512#tbm=isch&q=olaplex+before+and+after

Seems like since your hair is quite dry from all the chemicals it would work wonders! Hope this helps 🙂

  42. Personally if i were to pay such an amount of money for personal work I dont find it appropriate to speak a foreign language while attending to the customer I agree that is just disrespectful.

    [0]
  43. I dont know fuck all about that stuff but if it helps I think it looks good in both colours, hopefully your a bit happier about it and the hair gets undamaged or however the hell it works. And Merry Christmas
