Help! Canadian Tire Messed up my Car!

Help! I need advice or recommendations for s reputable mechanic! I drove my Nissan to Canadian Ture because of a fine crack on the radiator at 2 pm. The car drove perfectly fine and no issues whatsoever. I spent $700 for a new radiator to be installed and a coolant slush.

After they “completed the work” I got a phone call from them telling me my car would not crank let alone start. It took them over 6 hours to get my car to start and run after they supposedly rotated some parts around! This consisted of six trips back and forth with no answers! Finally at 8:45 pm I was finally able to drive my car home.

The following next day it was slightly colder outside. Upon starting the car I felt the ignition vibrating and shortly after my check engine light came on. The car ran rough and the next day it wouldn’t start at all! I called a tow truck the next day and since it warmed again I tried to start it and it started okay but the check engine light was still on.

My car has been back at Canadian tire for almost four days and they can’t find anything mechanically wrong with it! I seriously got ripped off! Before this I spent almost $800 in September for new coils and spark plugs.

I am a woman without much knowledge on cars and trusted Canadian tire! Please help me find answers! Or if you can recommend a trust worthy mechanic!

  3. Peter from PAG automotive in Acheson is the BEST mechanic I know and also the most genuine and honest. I HIGHLY recommend him.

I’m also so sorry this happened to you. Canadian Tire hires ill-trained students and does not provide the necessary training needed for success and then they pass that problem to the consumer. We went through so many hassles with dealerships, tire places and other mechanics before we found Peter and we will never leave him.

    • +1 for Peter at PAG. Not the cheapest but it feels good to know you’re not being lied to. He’s literally the only mechanic I will go see.

    • There’s a triangle of service and you only get two: cheap, quality and timely.
Peter does about anything to make sure his customers leave with a sound vehicle in a very timely manner.
He is worth every penny and in the end you pay less because you aren’t paying for things someone screwed up or you didn’t need.

Nope…. Dalzells worked on our FORD f150 and it smelled of raw gas when driving it…. took it to another mechanic and a couple thousand later the problem was fixed. This was after 1600 bucks at dalzells to make it worse.

I had a bad experience with Canadian Tire and their idea of car repair as well. I went all the way to upper management. They all gave me the golden finger and my car was never fixed by them.

  15. I don’t even like Canadian tire changing my tires.

The best story I got from CT is they tried to fail a lady’s Out of Province inspection because her horn wasn’t loud enough, and if she didn’t buy the $500 after market horn they had in stock right then and there, she would have to pay for the inspection again upon return…

No where on the OOP inspection sheet does it state what the volume of the horn is supposed to be.

  20. Tire Craft by Servus & Giant Tiger here in the Fort. They are simply amazing! I won’t take my vehicles anywhere else.

  21. S2 Auto is a phenomenal place, cheapest shop labor and they won’t screw you around with unnecessary things. Canadian tire had said they did an alignment on my car which they didn’t, how do I know? Well because when S2 went to do the alignment they found all of the bolts were seized and they had to use a torch on them.

  24. I will NEVER take a vehicle there again!! They fucked up my truck installing a remote starter. I couldn’t even get another mechanic to remove and replace it cause it was a CT product.
I fought with them for 8 months. And during that debate through BBB I was accused of damaging my own vehicle.

Never ever take any vehicle there!!!

    • They removed my whole side panel in my door while installing my car starter in my Jeep a few years ago. Claimed they didn’t touch it, replaced the clips. The panel kept coming off, and not even a week later I was back in because now my Jeep was leaking coolant into the cab. They purposely fuck up vehicles to get money out of people.

    • Amanda Michelle Drew, i believe that!!!! Mine was a 5 speed. They had it for 3 days initially. Said they needed my spare key to put in the ignition column. I gave it to them then they said they didn’t need it. Next winter it didn’t work. I looked under my dash to find the wiring harness wrapped around my clutch. The wires were shredded. They had it for another 5 days and charged me another 350 when the original install was near a grand. When I fought it the service manager accused me of cutting the wires. BBB deemed it a “no resolution” case. And on top of it all, when I got it back I no longer needed to push the clutch to start it and when my lights were turned off they were on and vice versa. Worst experience ever!!!! I guess sometimes we need to learn the hard way. They have ZERO accountability for their “work”

      [0]
    • Jesus!! You’re right, I guess the term “live and learn” especially applies with them.

You need to take your vehicle to Caliber automotive’. It’s in the westend but they are extremely honest. They saved me so much money diagnosing my Subaru, crv and gmc truck correctly. I really can’t believe the money they saved me. The owner is really based on honesty ( after working for a shop that part throws) and I truly trust his and his lead tech (which is his amazing brother) in my car repairs/advice) why spend the money if you don’t really have to. Caliber Automotive techs don’t make any money off what your car needs, and the truth is there. Check out their reviews. As a customer, who found the shop by word of mouth, and seeing their reviews, I can honestly say, these guys are amazing!

  34. I used to work there and I would never take a car there. The people hired are not professionals. Twice we had stuff messed up there…..before I worked there and learned my lesson. Research mechanics…take it there and don’t let Canadian Tire win. If u complain enough they will refund u.

Go to Good News Auto Repair!! I’m not event slightly comfortable taking my car in because I also don’t know a whole lot and always fear being ripped off. I took my car to good news auto to be diagnosed… Not only did they find the problem, they brought me into the shop and the technician showed me exactly what the problem was. I had a great experience there and I highly recommend them!!!

  37. Dost Auto on 124 Ave and 67 street is great and reasonable priced. He does all our work.

  38. Crappy Tire did the same thing to my van. Radiator went on a Friday night and I needed the vehicle for Monday. Simple radiator job I thought. Then they said a few other things had to be done. When I picked it up it ran like a mac truck. Not their problem and go ahead a complain they said – I never got anywhere with them and a few thousand latter fixed it elsewhere. What a joke.

  39. Bruce Stewart’s!!! They are amazing there, I have been taking my vehicles to them for 10ish years and have never felt ripped off or taken advantage of.

  41. They didn’t even replace the 2 missing lug nuts they were asked to do when putting on new winter tires. I couldn’t figure out why the car was rattling so badly on the highway until I took a look and saw they were missing.

Sorry you made the same mistake I did. I too trusted Canadian Tire, Millwoods to be exact. After they “fixed” my power steering I had to take it back because it was worse then when they started. They had it for several days over a 2 week period. It never did get fixed properly and to make matters worse, the last time I went to pick it up I got in and the glove box and what ever other papers were everywhere. Realized everything was stolen. 2 DVD players, movies, a wallet, a bag of new clothes etc.. ya I shouldn’t have left the stuff there but.. it seems they “forgot” to lock the door.. I will never go back..

  47. I am the owner of Good News Auto Repair, I am so sorry to hear of your experience at CT. It’s not in my nature to say anything bad about them , however, I do know that they are a huge apprenticeship shop and most of the diagnosis stuff goes to an apprentice to learn on. And it kinda sucks that customers are the ones who suffer.

If the problem is not fixed yet our team consists of 4 licenced technicians and we are pretty good at problem solving.

Let me know and i will get you booked in.

  50. Canadian tire repair shops are a huge rip-off!! The mechanics that work there are paid a base salary plus a percentage of parts and labor they can rack up as a bonus structure. I took a car to one once for a simple safety check. After the inspection I was informed it needed 1900$ in repairs to pass. I’m mechanically inclined so I called bullshit and went elsewhere. It passed right off.

    [0]
  51. You need to dispute that bill first and foremost. It doesn’t take 6 hours to do plugs and coils. That’s completely insane. And I’m trying to figure out what “parts they swapped around”. Maybe if you find another shop, or someone knowledable, have them look at your Canadian tire bill and the work that was performed. I believe they owe you money back. I wouldn’t take a toy Tonka truck to Canadian tire. I can’t believe That, sorry about your luck.

Last time I took my vehicle there, they pulled a fuse out completely. We had no idea until we were driving, that night, in the mountains in the dark, we had ZERO lights in the back. When we looked in the fuse box, the fuse was gone. and you need this tweezer type things to get those out.
