Help with disability or income?

I am asking for a friend. Is there anything other than AISH for her husband or some kind of help for them?

She had a severe injury and pretty much not mobile. They have 2 kids. She gets AISH $1,588 plus $100 per child. I get it sounds like it should work but $1788 is not that much for a family of 4.

Her husband was told she can’t get Home Care, they tried several times so he takes full care of her and the kids. Small children so all day care plus all her needs from toiletting to cooking.

Lately he developed health problems and they are becoming severe. She is worried they can lose the kids if they don’t get more help at home. Especially financially.
Since he is told he can’t work for 2 reasons – one being a caregiver and now because of his own health, can he apply for disability? She said they considered that but their monthly amount will not change. Is there anything outside of AISH or Income Support?

Also he is booked for several surgeries so she will be home with the kids for 3 days at a time without help. Her only family is a grandparent in old age home.
She is told she can’t qualify for Home Care but can she get help with daily needs, especially help with kids? Home Care don’t do short term needs and they won’t get it done in time since he gets 24 hour notice before surgery.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW

They are great people who are trying to make things work but seems to hit lots of road blocks. I am a friend but not from Edmonton.
