I want to get laid off and retire

Are there any employment lawyers out there? Is it possible to negotiate a layoff with severance? Or do I need to do something to get fired?

20+ year employee, just wants out. Tied of the BS. Just a bit short $ for retirement. A fair severance is all I’m looking for.

We’ve had some employees do some bad stuff and have received impressive severances. How can I get that same package without being a dick? I don’t want to be a dick.

Thank you.

Alright. I wanna nip this one before it starts. If you do not have anything nice to say, or helpful to the OP, please move on. Do not come here to bash or insult over a simple question please.

  3. Must not be that bad if you stuck it out for 20 plus years.

How short of cash are we talking here. Might be worth it to just stick it out depending on your paygrade and if you’re only a couple thousand short. Even if you’re retired, do you really want to leave a company you’ve been with for 20+ years on bad terms?

  6. With severance, for leaving a job, if fired. You would recieve 1 week pay, for each year worked, up to 12 years. So unless you neg your departure, your screwed.

    • *You’re

I believe the OP is looking for advice in regards to aside from what they are legally entitled to, to have some advice regarding how to negotiate aside from that. Some companies do severance pay outs.

    • Yes, so unless he negotiates his departure, he’s screwed. As far as I know, their is no agency to help with that. 6 yrs ago the law went up to 20 weeks severance, with only the labour board to help, after the fact.

  7. If they will have to replace you it is doubtful that they will be inclined to pay severance. If your job can be eliminated, and will save the company money in the longer term, they may be up for a dialogue and negotiation.

If you’ve worked there for 20 years have you tried just talking to the boss and asking for a lay off?

you could take sick leave .. could be due to migraine .. stress on the job, depression .. etc and go on short term 3 months, and you still get paid and then after tell doctor still not able to cope and go on long term disability then eventually the company will pay part of your wages and CPP disability will pay the other part until you are 65 ..when you are working you can get depressed especially if you are wanting out of a job that is wearing you down and can’t cope with just thinking you have to go back there tomorrow .. speak with your doctor and go from there .. why get yourself all worked up over this .. not good for your health ..

  12. Tired of the BS of your job?! Who isn’t tired of the BS, jeeza suck it up buttercup. Screwing the company you work for isn’t the smartest thing to do. You want to retire, do it then without causing a stir.

Please be very careful with this. You don’t want to screw up your retirement, the retirement you have worked so hard for! Take a few days to just breathe and think it through, I wish you the best!
