Just wondering everyone’s thoughts on City of Edmonton’s West LRT proposal

As I’m sure many of you have heard by now, the City of Edmonton has proposed that, to get the West LRT line through to the west side of the city, that Western Cycle and United Way both be torn down to make room for the line.

I was just wondering what everyone’s thoughts on this were.

My honest opinion; I wish this freakin’ city would take serious consideration into building an elevated line so that congestion in this damn place doesn’t get any worse than it already has become. This city’s street grid wasn’t build, nor designed, to be able to flow a population of a million people.

Anyway, I just hope that the city played fair in the deal, if it goes through; and that Western Cycle nor United Way lose out (much) out of all of this garbage.

Looking forward to everyone’s thoughts.

Why did you have to go and get me started. I think the city should have built the damn thing over 30 years ago like they were planning but to many people bitched because they wanted to send it through the river valley… but no that would take away from the river vally…… stupid council. I think no matter what they do everyone is going to be pissed off about it. And over half the people in this city need to stop complaining because hardly anyone voted last city election so because no one voted we are stuck with the same idiots for another 3 and a half years…… people who live on the west side probably don’t care about how it gets built. Because they just want one built because this should have been done 30 years ago

Like honestly there is no point in caring anymore to me because as far as I’m concerned I’m not going to believe in a west side lrt till it actually happens. Yeah sure they talk about it but whose to say they don’t scrap the project in the next little while because people can’t agree.

  3. I agree. I’d rather them spend the money and put it above (or under ground). What a waste of space otherwise.

Read Lorne Gunters column that pretty much sums up my opinion of west LRT

The bus service in this city is sub par… the choice to run the LRT..through united cycle ..and United way…is really shameful..the areas..are profoundly congested already..and need an above ground solution…people don’t want to live in perpetual construction zones with increases in traffic delays while they manage the issues with planning. Also…with the issues on the Metro line. .proper planning and engineering needs to take place..Before they start screwing up the flow of traffic.

transit in this city is becoming worse instead of better. ELEVATED RAILS, please.

  7. All I know is I live in Millwoods near the the line under construction and I am sick to death living in a construction zone and weird and I mean weird windy road that 75 Street has become. I don’t know if there’s been many accidents due to it but I can’t imagine there hasn’t been. Is that’s the way that street’s going to be now forever? Yes the whole thing should be either above or below ground. I think it’s time to move

Dear OP, Edmonton City Council does not employ people with common sense, they employ people who spend money on project that were often not thoroughly planned or tested, which in turn gives the city more reasons to increase taxes – to fix what should have been done right in the first place! It’s all broken – the system to pick material suppliers, private contractors, workers, all of it. Gotta keep the cash cow flowing. SMH :S

  9. I feel like the grid design is great. I find traffic is the least worst in canada. And its so easy to find addresses in this city. I have driven in most major cities in this country. The LRT on the other hand is a joke, people wont take this city seriously if they want to promote it as something great.
