Looking For Opinions

Trying to decide on a Jr High for our child. Went to Open Houses for St Edmund and Sir John Thompson but looking for opinions on both schools from other parents and/or current or former students.

  1. I didn’t realize there were choices now. I just went to the local one assigned to me.

  3. My son and daughter both went to St. Edmund. Teachers are amazing but both kids say they wish they would have went to SJT.

  4. I would ask for options from current students/parents. Schools change along with the staff running them. What may have been great years ago could be not so great now and vise versa.

  5. Both are good but very different. St Edmund is a sports academy. I would personally never enrol my child in a sports academy if they were not partaking. I ve always heard good things about sir John Thompson from people that attended.

  6. I would suggest finding out what options the school offers and what your kid wants to do. If one school has a great art program but your kid is into Drama but they don’t offer it you wouldn’t put the kid in that school.
Options are a very important stepping stone to figuring out what they want to do in life.

  7. If your child is an athlete, St Ed’s, if not, I don’t think it really matters.

    • Also if you’re not in the district and don’t do any of the sport academies, you probably wouldn’t be accepted.

Rachel Sisneth if the school doesn’t have closed boundaries, then it depends on if the school has met their number quota or not. Our kid goes to a school out of catchment.
