LRT DESIGN NEED TO BE UNDERGROUND

I just wanna thanks to the stupid city of Edmonton council for making stupid decisions of LRT design. You guys have no common sense about future . How stupid is to putting trains on roads . It’s just making traffic worst and worst.

Wherever is Lrt train going its making mess like Kingsway, century park and now milwoods . You guys are ruining city look. All u care about your pockets but what about future of city.

Learn from Toronto, Vancouver or New York. They have their major trains underground becs they know their city is growing . Mayor is not listening all he care about bike lanes. You made downtown disaster. After that playground zones from 730 to 2100 . Their is nothing wrong with playground zones but use some brains about timing and design . All city council waiting to finish grace period so they can put photo radar and make money so they can waste on Lrt and fill their pockets.

After loss of 3 million city council passed playground zones without citizen suggestions. And please Make Lrt once and make it right . Put underground or skytrain . What kind of planners you have who can even plan right. Just doing vision 2050 ? It’s gonna hell with lrt everywhere on roads . Think for future with some common sense .

Make vision clear not waste of money like Kingsway and boonie doon train who can’t even have more then 2 cars. Instead run more train every five minute and make more mess . Stop making citizen life hell and use brain. Please don’t waste our tax money

You could always just park, leave the roads for trains, busses, bikes, delivery trucks 😉

  2. There was just an election and all the same people were voted in. If people want a change, then show it with your vote!

Most people complaining about our city didn’t vote…. only 27% voter turn out and they wonder why voting doesn’t do anything. And they wonder why we have the same stupid decisions…. mind you some people didn’t even pay attention to the fact it’s voting time…. don’t get me started lol

“use brain” huh? And I take it you went to school for infrastructure design, hmmm? You’re suddenly a genius on this because you have an opinion?

  5. Underground design is also 10x the budget. So while you seem to think you know everything with your Facebook engineers degree, I can tell you that if they announced the project going underground and the total cost, you’d shit your pants and rant here on shoutout about how the city is wasting money and robbing tax payers.
Guess what, council will never get it right because you can’t please people all the time.
The only time people complain about the at-level cruising is the one at NAIT. That’s it. The one crossing.
So next time you want to sound off like you have a pair, run for council and show them how it’s done

    • That NAIT line is great. Too bad about the problems with the timing, but at least they won’t be going with the same company again. You’re right. If City just went ahead and made it all underground, taxpayers would be full out bitching about the cost. These elected officials do the best they can with the money allotted.

    • keep in mind from 1982 to 2000 we had only 10 stations. With 5 or 6 underground, the cost was so high the city never expanded until 1991 or 1992 when they finally hit the University.

I understand your frustration, however in an ideal world we would install a complete underground subway like NYC.
The answer to 90% of every question ever asked is…….. Money.

  7. That wouldn’t upset traffic at all, building an underground where the ground freezes and heaves.

Raised Monorail like Vancouver. Tunnelling is expensive and they are constantly closing Jasper ave for repairs to the LRT.

  9. I agree. I wish they could re do most of it and make it all above ground. Our city is going down cause if this lrt line.

We should contact our city council and voice our grievances and ask for a plebiscite.

  11. I don’t know what the answer is but I want to move out of Millwoods, the roads are so messed up, confusing and chaotic with the LRT construction

Omg I don’t even know where to start with this.
Go out and vote next municipal election… only 27% voter turn out no wonder we have the same problems…..
You obviously don’t pay attention to your community news letters or signs throughout. Because I guarantee that you could have gone into a community meeting and voiced your concerns…. the past month or so it’s been advertised that city hall is halving a discussion March 21…… about the lrt….. did you bother sending an email to your mla? Do you even know who your mla is? As for underground that cost would be ridiculous and you think it’s bad now….. also lrt isn’t compatible with the sky train system in vancouver….. so for everything to go to sky train that’s a whole other issue. What you really need to be upset about is the fact they left Millwood and west Edmonton for over 30 years. What I get upset about is west side could have been built 30+ years ago but people didn’t want it going through the river valley and a small section of people didn’t want to get new houses

  13. FYI underground is not possible in all areas of this city. Just sone technical details to consider. Also, street level isn’t always bad. Certainly seems to work in some major European cities. Better thought processes into the design prior to implementation in this city would be welcome.

YOU WANT CHANGE CONTACT YOUR MLA AND GO VOTE NEXT MUNICIPAL ELECTION….. ONLY 27% VOTER TURN OUT…. IT’S NO SURPRISE WE HAVE THE SAME POLITICIANS. AND YOU SAY VOTING DOESN’T DO ANYTHING…… WELL MAYBE IF MORE THAN 27% WENT OUT AND VOTED YOU WOULD SEE IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. SO IF YOU DIDN’T VOTE IN THE LAST ELECTION GO VOTE IN THE NEXT ONE……..MAKE A DIFFERENCE…..

  15. Agreed. We have more homeless people than we have year round cyclists. Downtown is a disaster. 82nd street at 5 o’clock is an ugly place to be. More cyclists than tax paying citizens living north east side of town.

After all of the random violent attacks that have been occurring at the LRT stations, I can safely say that I will not be using Edmonton public transit ever again. Or at least until they make some major changes

  18. I thought Vancouver has a SkyTrain? I might be wrong, but I always assumed that the term “SkyTrain” meant that it spent a lot of its time above ground.

The city should probably make transit user data more available to researchers so that they are able to determine what the best options are using a) the scientific method and b) anecdotes from a diverse population within the city. Support evidence-based decision making, not necessarily selling out to the cheapest bid… Prove to the people why it’s worth it to sometimes pay a bigger bill.

  21. It was a real dumb move on Kingsway for sure but if you see what is under the streets of the city, they didn’t have much option..

I have a better idea than putting the let underground. How about not building it at all? Why do we have to have it? Why can’t we just accept that Edmonton is a car based city? Why do we have to be following the UN Agenda 21?

  23. I agree with you, none of the city councils know WTF they are doing when it comes to the LRT, the metro line is a serious joke. Just like the stupid bike lanes, especially downtown.

Run the LRT around the city. In the meridian of the Hendy and direct Connections to all the rest of the LRT

  25. I 100% agree. it’s too late now tho. Edmonton is one of the most poorly planned cities I’ve ever been in.
