I don’t like what I’m seeing right now. Yes, I get equality for women, minorities, etc- that’s the way it should be, but at the expense of stepping on men? The pendulum has swung so far the other way now that there is a very quiet injustice going on. Our men are not doing so good. 75% of all suicides are by men. Drug and Alcohol addiction is double the rate of women. Capable fathers have to jump through flaming hoops to get custody of their kids. Advertising is constantly putting down men whether it’s TV commercials, sit-coms, or retail advertising. Society sends such mixed messages on how men are suppose to act. What does it even mean to act “like a man?” What a confusing time. I have been so lucky to have amazing men in my life from a strong husband, to great brother-in-laws, son-in-laws, and a fantastic son. I do worry what the future holds for him with how society continues to devalue men. With Fathers Day coming, I think we need to appreciate the men in our life and support them. We also need to speak out when we see injustice, especially in advertising which is rampant. Let them know loud and clear that their agenda is unacceptable and you will not support them.
We won’t make gains in human rights by stepping on one another.
