Martyshuk Housing Preys on the Homeless

I worked in inner city homelessness in Edmonton for 5 years. I think it’s only fair that the public knows about what this company and affiliates (Dwaynes Housing) (Pyramid Housing) are doing to prey on the homeless.

They are essentially profiteers that do not treat the homeless humanely. The have no interest in helping anyone. They house the homeless in deplorable conditions because they want their medication scripts. They are made to sign a “medication agreement” on receiving housing. The daily dispense fee is currently 12.50 per day per dispense. The average person is on 4 meds a day. Some are to be taken 4 times a day. There are individuals who are taking as many as 40 dispenses a day…that is rare but it happens.

So…in certain cases profits of 500 a day or more are being made by these profiteers on a single person. None of these profits go back into housing or support needs. Dave Marytshuk in particular likes to present himself as a “homeless champion” but really? He’s a predator filling his pockets with the profits made from the very vulnerable.

    • There’s this man who thinks he’s the homeless hero. Through his organization I guess you can call it that, there are programs for homeless people to get housing. But they overcharge them for housing. People are spending up words to 40$ a day for their medications. Conditions are also not the best.

Morgan McCaughan – well that Just isn’t right. Are you saying that the only reason they can get housing if they pay for meds. How is that possible?

    • I will take you up on that, I actually like to research stuff & know what it is I am supporting before I jump on board so I will pm you & come down to find out what you are all about & reserve my judgment until I have real experience dealing with this issue & know where you are coming from. I will also talk to the people staying there & get there side of things, after gathering such relevant info I will go through it & use common sense to make up my own mind & decide how I feel & where I can show support.

  2. I’ve heard bad things about it. Did this guy not also own the building beside the day shelter, McDonald’s loft or something where they evicted everyone? I’ve heard horror stories of the condition of these places.

  7. The hard lesson is that people are out to make money despite who they need to step on.

  8. Go to proper authorities, get him investigated …if this is true things can be done to stop it!

  9. This isn’t just with the homeless population. This happens a lot in seniors facilities also. They have to use the pharmacy affiliated with the facility. And it usually has increase dispensing fees. It’s definitely taking advantage of our vulnerable populations.

  10. Hi everyone,

I own and operate Pyramid Housing Corp. I’ve read this post along with all the comments and although I don’t usually respond to these kinds of slanderous posts I feel compelled to do so this time. This is one of a number of attacks upon Pyramid Housing Corp (PHC) , myself and my staff over the past month by whom I believe is a disgruntled previous employee. The goal is to slander without repercussion by way of invisibility… thus anonymously on shout out Edmonton.

PHC receives referrals from all kinds of agencies and provides clean secure accommodations (at fair market value) to those whom are homeless or at rick of being homeless along with supports and advocacy to those who need it most. Of the more than 200 tenants only 61 participate in our pharmacy/med care program which subsidizes these people who are on very limited incomes. To think one of my tenants is on 40 meds a day is crazy and is a deliberate fabrication of facts

Should anyone be interested in learning the facts about PHC or would like more information, you are welcome to PM me and I will arrange a tour. You may view some of our units and meet some of our team and tenants or just gather information for yourself.

Take the initiative and learn the truth first hand. I know you will be impressed with our program. Trust me, know one is getting rich of the homeless. https://www.facebook.com/pg/pyramidhousingcorp/photos/?ref=page_internal

Hi everyone, i wanted to add to this. I have known Dave Martyshuk in a professional manner for the past 7 years. I have had the opportunity to tour all of his locations and see first hand the good he is doing in Edmonton. I have spoken to his clients and have seen the positive interaction he has with them. Since i first met Dave in 2011 it was clear his passion was to help the Edmonton homeless, get them a roof over their heads and food in their belly’s. In no way are the living situations deplorable, for some this is the first safe, warm, clean place they have had in a long while. I am not sure who the writer of this article is but seems like someone with a grudge instead of someone truly concerned for the homeless…..
