NO SMOKING AT BUS STOPS

Hey asshats!

It’s illegal to smoke at a bus stop. If I wanted to be ashed on and have my hair smell like smoke, I would date the Marlborough man.

Keep your gross habit to yourself and get some god damned manners.

  4. Wtf LOL I won’t smoke INSIDE the bus shelter but like I’ll be damned if I’m not gonna smoke my cigs anywhere else.
    I’m outside. Deal with it.

    [0]
    • Or you could just walk up the sidewalk away from the bus shelter..
Not everyone can just deal with the smoke

      [0]
    • Or they can walk away from me? I was not born to cater to other people. If they have an issue, they can move.
There are plenty of things I don’t like at bus stations. But I don’t go “hey, pay attention to your child, he keeps kicking me”. I get off my ass and move.

Not my problem. My entire life is centered around other people. I’m gonna smoke my damn cig where I want to

      [0]
    • Obviously I’m not a dick about it. I don’t blow smoke in people’s faces,if I go to sit on a bench that someone else is sitting on,I ask if they mind if I smoke.

I’m as respectful about it as I can be.
I’m not gonna go even MORE out of my way

      [0]
    • You’re making a choice to smoke. It’s just common courtesy that you don’t force others around you to breath it in. It’s appreciated that you ask people if they mind, believe me! But you’re one of the nice ones Jessica Quickfall 😉 most people just don’t give a shit

    • Your the one killing yourselves slowly with cancer sticks you don’t need to make it a party. Move your ass up the street.

      [0]
    • Adam Dee why don’t you move your entitled ass up the block? If you want to smoke that bad, try to have some respect for others who need to wait for the bus as well.

      [0]
    • Megan Newstead a lot of things are common courtesy. Don’t like my smoke oh so sorry. I don’t like your whiney kid or your stinky food on your clothes. Fuckin wah. Sick it up and get along with your life. Worth whining about? Get a life than!!!

    • I totally get it, I do. And I personally think smoking is gross as fuck, I can’t imagine how it is for others.
I feel like decency goes both ways.

Like if I sparked up a smoke near someone and they said “hey can you just make sure it’s not going in my face” , I make sure it doesn’t.
But if someone is like “hey get that nasty bullshit away from me” they can go fuck themselves.
Decency is a two way street! I’m super cool with being respectful. I’m not cool with people trying to dictate.
A gentle “your smoke is bothering me” COOL one of us is gonna move. I can dig that. Thanks for approaching me kindly and saying something.

      I’m 100%okay with that.
What I’m not okay with is how the OP went about it

Megan Newstead Because I’m not the one complaining ☺️

    • I have 3 kids don’t get me wrong! Love them dearly. Don’t blow smoke in there faces either. But honestly I’m mature enough to walk away from a situation I’m uncomfortable with!

      [0]
    • Tindy MacMillan stinky food and whiney kids don’t cause cancer…
      That’s the difference.

      [0]
    • Ya your right but many other thing cause cancer too. Smoking is minor now a days sorry!

      [0]
    • Ya your right but many other thing cause cancer too. Smoking is minor now a days sorry!

      [0]
    • Tindy kids are what I’m most respectful about. I personally do not like children AT ALL but if I see a kid walking by me when I have a smoke, I put it WAAAAY up in the air so they don’t have to be near it hahaha!

      [0]
    • Everything you eat or drink is killing you! Let’s blame smokers for that though !

      [0]
    • Walk away! Shut your mouth. Move along. It takes yes of second hand smoke to cause problems! Someone needs a daddy hug sorry!

      [0]
    • Jessica Quickfall and so would I. We are talking about an adult that’s fukn but hurt over it not a kid!

      [0]
    • Megan Newstead Everything causes cancer. There are more carcinogenics in the air we breath downtown than there are cigarettes. Just be aware that cigarettes are not the only cancer causing agent you can come across in your day.

      [0]
    • Stacey Benson did they not just have an advisory in effect for 3 fukn days because of pollution in the air in Edmonton? Ya let’s complain about someone smoking at a bus stop!!

      [0]
    • Ppl are so judgemental and live in such tiny little glass houses I swear lmao!

      [0]
    • Tindy MacMillan I’m sure the person who gets cancer from smoking thinks it’s minor. They die just as painfully as those who got it some other way.

    • Adam Dee Adam Dee says:

I wish smoking was just as legal as it was when I was a kid. And I’m not a smoker. That’s how whiny I think majority of non-smokers are about smoking. They literally make me root for the other team. Like… smokers can barely smoke in their own homes anymore due to all the laws put in place… everyone always thinks it’s about them and their health to the point that I really think the government has oppressed smokers enough tbh… If you’re truly naive enough to think that daily exposure to second hand smoke on its own at that level is what causes your cancer then you’re more ignorant and/or uneducated than you care to admit.

      [0]
    • I wish these non smokers would get a grip. they better start wearing a face mask or something. how are they able to breathe all the exhaust fumes in the air near the bus stop? those aren’t good for you either. So sick of the holier than thou non-smokers. I long for the days when you could smoke anywhere and i mean ANYWHERE and no one said a friggin word about it.

      [0]
    • Tindy MacMillan not minor enough.

  5. No it’s actually illegal to smoke IN the shelter, don’t like it maybe move two feet over lol

  6. I’m a smoker and I don’t light up around others even if they are behind me. I don’t smoke by bus shelters also. I hate my habit and don’t want to make others have to smell or inhale.

I agree a little consideration goes a long way. I have severe asthma and the smoke irritates me right away even if I’m outside and it’s being blown into my face.

  9. Did you happen to inform them personally about the smoking ? Or hope they are reading ?? Hahahaha

  10. Amanda Jones Amanda Jones says:

Isn’t it easier to remove yourself from the area than it is to complain about it on Facebook? A couple steps in another direction won’t kill you.

    [0]
    • Well then. If you don’t like theft you should move then? This logic is retarded. It’s not allowed in bus shelters. Go smoke elsewhere because you choose smoking.

      [0]
    • Amanda Jones Amanda Jones says:

First of all, I don’t smoke. And I never said anything about smoking inside a bus shelter.

      [0]
    • Jim Kilipouris it said BUS STOP. Not shelter
And it’s people with attitudes like yours that make me want to smoke closer to you.

Respect is a 2 way street and by the sounds of it you don’t deserve respect.

  18. People complaining about smokers. What about the exhaust fumes from the vehicles. I don’t hear anyone complaining about that. Just some people complaining about smokers

    [0]
  19. I believe MOST smokers are very respectful of non smokers.

It’s the non smokers, much like OP, that think they have some kind of superiority over smokers.

Yes, sometimes we may light up too close, all you have to do is say, excuse me, do you mind stepping over there, the smoke bugs me. And honestly 9 times out of 10, they’ll move.

If you start fake coughing and whining and carrying on then were not going to move.

Respect goes both ways. Try being polite and you’d be surprised how easy this situation gets.

    [0]
  20. And BTW since when is it illegal to smoke at a bus stop? Just some whiney non smoker had a shitty day. They always have something to say!

    Meet in the middle…
    Smoke up wind?
One little whiff of smoke and I get a headache. Allergies. I know that my allergy is not your problem, but some people actually get physically ill from cig smoke.
So maybe if someone is smoking, go sit downwind.

I hate smoke, too, OP. Unfortunately it’s just… life. People smoke.

Just found this: (legally smokers have to be 5 metres from the shelter) https://database.nonsmokersrights.ca/bylaw/edmonton/

You get “paranoid”? Lol… Honestly your car does more damage to people, especially kids, they are at exhaust fume height

  38. Robyn Hamp Robyn Hamp says:

lol, yup. if I’m waiting for a bus, and someone is smoking when it’s too windy or if I end up sitting next to someone that reeks and I can’t move away, I don’t want the smell clinging to my clothes. I’ve had a few people ask me if I started smoking (I don’t) because it was so bad a couple of times I was stuck with a heavy smoker. I ended up stripping the second I walked home and threw my clothes outside overnight before throwing them in the wash

  39. Brandon Hogg Brandon Hogg says:

For the purposes of ending this debate. In it’s Tobacco and Smoking Reduction Act, The Government of Alberta has prohibited smoking in a public place, and further defines an outdoor bus shelter as a public place. I reviewed the City of Edmonton Bylaws, as well as the Act, and found only reference to smoking in an actual shelter not at an actual bus stop.
