Question for the ladies

Hi Ladies, I posted a few months back about experiencing Mittleschmerz (painful ovulation). Thank you so much for your tips and suggestions.

I am now wondering if you have some advice about long periods? I am 39 years old. I have a regular period about 5 days. Then for the next 9 days I continue to wipe and there’s dark red blood. Not the normal bright red stuff. It isn’t enough to oak a pad. It’s mostly just when I wipe. But I mean…I’m essentially feeling like I’ve had a 2 week period. It’s not getting any lighter either.

What the heck is going on? Google is not terribly helpful. I have an appointment with my doctor next. Thursday. And also, this is not the first time. My last 4 or 5 periods have been similar to this, just not as long. And once I had a period, it stopped, then a few days later like mid-cycle; this started.

Anyone have this happen to them? Thanks!

  7. Get a pap smear to rule out issues. Might need to have your fallopian tubes scraped…test for endometriosis etc.

  8. Go see your doctor. You may have a bleeding disorder. I did not find out until after I had a hysterectomy.

  10. I have experience simular. Long periods for about 6-7 days then 4-5days of brown blood/discharge. I’ve had multiple checks and all’s normal doctors don’t ever give me an answer other then having endo. Just make sure ur doctor does a good check on everything to be safe.

This started for me when I turned 40, exact same thing, went to the doctor and yes peri menopause which can last up to 10 years before full blow menopause … I had 14 day periods for a couple months then tapering off to 10 then 7 days…then a hysterectomy for other reasons. Message me if you like, I am also a nurse

Sounds like peri-menopause. There is an annual Trade Show & info day put on it Edmonton each year.

Also this group is useful for information.

Well dark blood that’s kind of brown just means it’s older…. painful ovulation could be a cyst…. of course Google isn’t helpful. If you actually want an idea call health link talk to a nurse

Your hormones are out of balance. Take Vit D, at least 4K IU./day so start. That’s essential. You may need to start Prometrium to get your progesterone up.
