Rant – Multiple Hit and Run that Occurred in the West Edmonton Mall Parking Lot

WARNING: TONS OF COARSE LANGUAGE – I spotted this rant on the Edmonton subreddit on reddit. Please be careful out there during the hectic Christmas season.

hit by car in wem parking lot december 1st

The original post reads:

“Seriously the people here need to get their shit together. Huge freaking rant ahead, read it or don’t I am just blowing off steam.

TL;DR: Some bitch hit me (me, not my car) twice with her car and drove off.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW

This happened in the WEM parking lot. A lady parked over a parking stall line, which is no biggie to me as I have a tiny sedan and hey – it’s winter! You can barely see the lines. I just rolled with it, did my thing in the mall, came back and sat in my car. Getting ready to go, you know, buckle up and shit, and I feel this WHUMP. Like, I thought another car brushed me type thing. Nope! Just the lady in the fancy black car next to me opening her door as hard as she could into mine.

Jeeze woman calm down. I roll down my window and say “Excuse me, you just hit my car!” And she retorts back with “well don’t park so close then!” I told her she was over the line and she told me to fuck off. Well! Me and my old clunker, I don’t care about little dents and door dings – who hasn’t dinged a door in their lives? But be that rude? I said “hold on, I have to check for damage to see if I need your info.” Well of course she got mad and her husband told me not to be an asshole, but realistically besides being petty I really wanted to make sure there wasn’t a huge dent.

Well thank god for old cars because there was like, the ittiest scratch on the car, and as I was about to tell them it was tiny and not to worry.

What does she do? Flings her car into reverse and pins it, bumping into my leg with her car and my side with her side view. Like, I had to ninja right the fuck out because she was going to sandwich me between the two cars. Well now I am REALLY mad.

I turned around, and yelled “now you’ve hit me with your car, you have to wait for the police. Stop. STOP.” She rolls down her window at me cursing and screaming. All I can say is “you’ve hit me with your CAR.” I know. Brilliant. I am not a fast-thinking superhero. At this point I am standing behind my car, very close to it and she is just barely pulled out of her parking spot. She looks shocked and the husband is just raging – so is she, though.

She throws it into drive and I say “no, I am getting your plate and we have to wait for the police. I went and got the plate number and she is slowly trying to inch forward. Again, I tell her to stop and wait for the police.

I am uninjured, but it was very, very, VERY close to not being the case. If I hadn’t jumped I’d 100% for sure be in the hospital. I go to walk back to my car to get my cell phone and she suddenly pins it forward again, I think trying to scare me. AGAIN, she bumps into me with her car. FUCK. Well now I’ve got another dinged shin, again could have been way worse, and I am super crazy plus mad.

I just stood there, kind of at the corner (could dodge if she pinned it again, but still kind of blocking) and yell to another person in another car “can you help me please, she just hit me with her car!” He came out and took a pic of the plate while they kept trying to leave and told them to stop as well. Woman just flew into reverse and got the fuck out of there.

Well I called 911 and they told me because I didn’t need an ambulance they wouldn’t send a car and I had to go into a police station. Fair enough! I was not really hurt that bad besides maybe a small bruise? So I walk to the station in WEM and the officer there is just LIVID that they wouldn’t send a car. He said that even sexual assault victims are being told to drive into police stations instead of getting police sent to them and it’s the fault of poor 911 call training. I was there for an hour or so and then he sent me home saying that a car will be by my house soon.

I am just so fucking done with Edmonton drivers.

Only some entitled bitch would a) park right over a stall line then b) purposefully hit someone’s car because of it and then c) hit THEM not once but TWICE with her car and THENN d) drive the fuck off.

Whoever you are, you asshole, fuck you, the police have all your info, enjoy your hit and run charge, cunt.”

  1. Wow… I can’t believe someone would actually physically hit a person on purpose. This season can either bring out the best or worst in people. I hope you’re ok!

  3. Holy I’d be pissed! I hope she does get charged. People during this time of the season are a’holes and it doesn’t help that Edm drivers are jerks who think they own the road.

  4. Someone once blow throw a flashing cross walk, while I was trying to cross with a stroller. It was in the lane I was starting to walk in to off the side walk. Every other vehicle had stop but if I didn’t readjust my hands on the stroller, my daughter would have been hit (and most likely killed as she was in an umbrella stroller). And this was not the first time this has happen at this location

Far too many people in Edmonton have as much respect for human life as an L.A. gangbanger brandishing a handgun in a neighborhood with children.

A shocking amount of drivers are NOT aware of everything around them. They ‘just drive’. It’s terrifying how many almost accidents happen with pedestrian crosswalks due to their apathy. And how many deaths actually occur.

You’re supposed to SCAN each cross walk as you pass over them. Especially those that aren’t ‘flashing’ or marked well. If there is a sign, you scan the crosswalk.

  7. We witness a girl being assaulted and I to was floored by what she was told on the phone by the 911 operator.you have to go to a station to meet a car then if it isn’t open you better pray that the person who assaulted you doesn’t follow you or find you while you wait for a car to show up because the stations close @ nine pm.

Unfortunately I’m not surprised. As a pedestrian I don’t feel safe in this city. I have been hit a couple times, and even in school zones near my house, people don’t care, don’t pay attention and drive to fast. When I walk my dogs we are all wearing reflector vests because I’m terrified of the stupidity I see and have experienced out here. It’s just not safe.

  9. Had a similar incident….guy parks in 2 stalls (like an asshole). I call him on it, he tells me to f off and peels out. We follow to get his plate number, he pulls over and jumps out in the middle of the road with a pipe in his hands. Our options are…run him down, or take it. Well he does almost $2000 damage to the hood of our car with that pipe, while I snap a pic. (Had my camera ready to take a pic of his plate). Got him and the plate. Sadly…they haven’t found the guy, but they know who he is and there’s a warrant out for him. So sick of assholes!

I’d believe anything from drivers in Edmonton. Only place I’ve ever driven where it was worse was Beverly Hills, California. Only took me one year to get over the myth that Canadians are somehow nicer than Americans.
