Rant Regarding Mess Being Left Behind at the Winterburn Costco

So it’s only early in the year and this is what we have to deal with from Costco on Winterburn. They have be asked to do something. We have complained to the city and we have called bi-law.

We are asking the public, is there anything that the people sharing the fence in Grandville with Costco and other new business, what can we do? 3 years now I spend an hour cleaning this shit up at least every weekend. I pay enough taxes that something should be done. On top of their ridiculous snow removal that starts at 3 in the morning and their transport trucks idling until wee hours in the morning right behind our houses.

Thanks Costco.

  1. I’d be gathering up that garbage and emptying it in their entrance doors.

  2. What has the city/bylaw said about this? I am not sure if “Edmonton” can do anything. Isn’t this Enoch property? I’d consider contacting the Chief out in Enoch? Write a letter to Costco management? That’s gross.

  3. Wow. That’s uber annoying, and not cool. I’d lose my mind!

  4. We have the same problem where garbage from the McDonalds across the street and the over flowing garbage can by the bus shelter and from people riding the bus accumulates in our driveway, we have talked to transit and in the summer months they empty the trash can about twice weekly now but I have to clean the drive way and front lawn constantly

  5. I work in a postal outlet and I noticed that lots of people don’t want to take their garbage home to be disposed of so naturally they will throw it anywhere when no one is looking. People are slobs.

  6. Everyday we are picking up garbage blowing into our yard from who knows where…. It’s a constant thing. Either way we pick it up as I like my lawn to look clean and pretty. Annoying yes. We go for walks to see who leaves their garbage out and possibly bags get torn from birds. As of yet the culprit is still at large! lol.

  7. That’s pretty much all over the city. Garbage is a huge concern everywhere in Edmonton. Edmonton can be a very dirty city. . Lived here for 33 years… it’s only getting worse…

  8. Wow that’s fucked if that was me I would be making there life hell !!! I’m vindictive like that though hahha . The adult way take video and pictures post it to city face book and tweet the shit out of it to the mayor and other people down town and all the major tv station social media is a power full tool when hardest properly

  9. Also I would clean it all up and put it in the front door of the store that is belongs to and be consistent

  10. Unfortunately some of the items (aside from the garbage) like the noise of trucks or snow removal would have been obvious prior to moving there. So those are kinda grumbles that come with the territory of living near commercial developments. I live beside a bus stop, I don’t like the 3 am snow removal but it comes with the territory.

As for the Garbage,… I can’t help but wonder if the developer of the commercial area would pay to have it cleaned by a community group monthly if the proposal was made to the right people?

  13. Wait I am confused is Costco dumping garbage in your yard? What does the city have to do with garbage in your yard?

  14. But have you tried talking to the manager? Asking about how they store their garbage?

  15. Grab a garbage bag, get some air and a bit of cardio and go pick it up. It’s better than sitting a bitching about it to strangers.

I think like a previous commenter mentioned. You knew when you purchased the property that you were buying next to commercial property, perhaps Costco was there already as well. Your house was likely purchased cheaper due to this. Unfortunately I have to say that I don’t think it’s anyone’s responsibility to clean up your yard but your own. I live across from a park and we get high winds and I get garbage blowing in my yard that I have to pick up. This is why I would never buy next to a commercial property. I don’t want to deal with the noise, traffic, garbage etc…

  17. p.s. When you have done that deliver it to the managers at the Costco. They may take the hint

  18. As far as the snow removal equipment,(working) the guys running those pieces of equipment have families to feed just as you do.and being able to get to the Costco to buy your food could be a good thing don’t you think..

I don’t understand how Costco is at fault?
Unfortunately, Costco — or any other business — must operate at all hours. Snow removal can’t be done during regular work hours because of customers. Idle trucks? Well they need deliveries… AND I have never seen a Costco truck at three in the morning or four in the morning just idling there.

As for the garbage, as awful as this sounds, I think you’re going to have to suck it up buttercup. People who live near or back onto corporations or schoolyards or grocery stores all have this problem, not just you.

  20. Try living in an area of the city where used needles and condoms are found in your back alley.

Also be glad you don’t live behind a Walmart parking lot when the camping trailer trash parks pop up. That doubles the amount of garbage from typical disgusting Walmart shoppers.

Keep picking it up.cause the city won’t do nothing.
    Then pack it in boxes.
When you have 50 get friends with truckers the load the truckers at 2: am take all boxes and dump them at the front doors o f Costco.

Unfortunately wind takes garbage everywhere my back yard faces a field so I’m picking up garbage constantly no point complaining I just pick it up and move on!

  24. Plant some trees along your fence, will act as a wind break and keep majority of garbage out. Will also block views of light poles etc and give privacy as well as buffering some noise. Those yards are super ugly even without the garbage but trees will help!

  25. Even if you know your moving into an area with businesses, they should still take responsibility for the waste and have it managed better also the impact that their business is having on its neighbour, As I would about my neighbours! It makes me feel differently about these businesses when I hear stories like this.

Also do ppl still litter? Really? Now? In 2016? …?
