Rec Room at South Common

I wanted to host my birthday party at the Rec Room so a friend and I went to scope it out on Saturday afternoon.

The Pros:
The idea seems like a good idea in theory. That is the only pro I could find about this place.

The Cons:
You walk in and there is no real signage to explain where / what things are. We went into “Three10” restaurant and were told there would be a 35-45 minute wait, yet the place was literally half empty. We then went upstairs to “The Loft”. We found a table, it was still dirty but sat down none the less. Short story-service was mediocre, food was mediocre. There are only glasses of beer, no jugs. It was also extremely hot! So hot that it was uncomfortable. We wanted to play pool, but you need electronic wrist bands to do that (there are no signs anywhere, we only found out by asking a server).

We did try to play pool but due to the fact there are NO blinds anywhere it’s nearly impossible to play-see photo. We were able to get into “Three10” for supper and shared appies. The red head server at the bar(where we sat) was brutal. Directly in front of us she was arguing with other staff about transferring us. No one wanted to serve us which resulted in slow, crappy service. Our food was brought out with no side plates, no cutlery. Kind of hard to eat without these things. I mist give a shout out to the little Asian fellow who took over serving us when his shift started. He was great and picked up the pieces.

We stuck around until 7pm and by then it was slow, stuffy and crowded. I doubt we will be back.

Ps. It costs $70 an hour to bowl

  1. Is it such a new place they’re probably still trying to work out the Kinks. But that still doesn’t excuse what happened.

Servers arguing over who will take on a customer is not exactly a new bar kink. That’s a lazy server. If anything, a new club should be extremely welcoming and provide the best service possible to increase clientelle. This to me sounds like people owning a business they have no idea how to operate. I worked in bars for over 12 years, with lazy staff and awesome staff. Customers and quality need to be paramount.

  2. Thanks for the review. Was thinking of going there with my husband, but now I will find us something better.

  3. Why would you stay so long if it was so uncomfortable? I would have been in and out after the first look around or drink even.

  4. I wasn’t impressed with my first (and only) experience there, either, but my friends have gone and loved it. I get different strokes, but arguing over who “has” to serve you would have been my tipping point. What a shit show.

  5. it was a 3.5 hour wait for me Saturday (we ended up eating elsewhere), but keep in mind it is brand new, so I expect it to be busy for a few weeks/months at least! cool concept though, even for someone who isn’t super into “gaming”

  6. Cara, he’s not lying actually, I mention some of these things to you. I didn’t mention to you that I actually had to speak to 3 people to order my burger. And just like the guy in the story, the last guy actually was awesome and brought my food up to me, which he didn’t have to

It’s owned by Cineplex so everything is shitty and overpriced, especially the food and service. I won’t be going to check it out based on the company that owns it.

  8. I had a great experience when I went out for my girls night. The 310 was slow at first but then our waitress was great. The burger I ate was amazing, the fries were fresh. We went at 8pm on a Sunday night. We didn’t have to wait too long for games. My only complaint was the loft. It took forever to get us a table for 4 even though we saw a bunch of open tables and we were sitting at a table for 20min before a server came .

  9. We went in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, we had such horrible service in the Loft we ended up leaving. This was in September.

  10. I believe this place has just opened and needs to find it’s legs! Come on Edmonton let us not become to restaurants that people from Toronto are to Theatre… Always though Edmontonians above all that snobbery! Like I said…let them get their legs especially in this recession good for them for trying.

  11. Yep I agree with it all. Absolutely no service at the restaurants so we left and even left a bad review. Never going again and passing word along to not waste your time.

Calling customers cheap is great for your employers business. Arguing in front of a customer is NOT about “finding your fit” , it is classless, ignorant and just plain RUDE.
I wonder what Ciniplex would think of your comment??

  14. Tk u for your comment! I was interested in trying this place but if everyone there has your attitude I think I’ll spend my money somewhere else.

I was also interested in hosting a party here, I filled out the online request form a week ago and have not gotten any response. i tried calling 3 or 4 times throughout the past week too but can never get through to an actual human so I have no choice but to host my party elsewhere.

Wow if this is the type of service you will receive there i know that they will not be getting my business. I wonder how Cineplex would feel if they knew this is how their staff was treating customers.
