Retail ripoffs

Went shopping for Christmas decoration today just for fun. Number one on the list Wallmart. While walking out I noticed a notice on the till stating that there is a correction to a flyer just mailed out. The correction was on at least 5 items where prices or quantities were corrected to higher prices or the price was for less quantity and sorry for the inconvenience. Interesting to note that you don’t see it until you are paying for an item. A new strategy for milking consumers. No reimbursement for fuel or time if you went for the flyer price.

Number 2 was Lowes where I noticed a sign they will match and beat competitors price by 10%. Well I could not contain myself when I told an employee I just saw the same item at Walmarts for a lesser price. Well to my amazement I needed an item number to make certain it was exactly the same item and it could be a sale. Wow!

Number 3 Canadian Tire the all Canadian store. Clearance sale on Chritmas ornaments.. Every item I looked at for ornaments was more than than the other stores regular prices. I also mentioned this to an employee who only shrugged his shoulders. Not much more he could do.

Finally Ronas who displayed a huge 40% of Christmas ornaments. I stopped in and saw no ornaments anywhere. There were fresh cut trees outside however.

So now the completion board is after price fixers on bread and theses other box stores are getting away with false advertising to get the consumer in the door.i saw and experienced these dishonest this morning without looking for it. I just noticed it while looking at prices. Consumer beware! If you nothing, nothing will happen.

  2. Why are you complaining to an employee about store policies? God, this drives me insane. WE HAVE NO SAY OVER COMPANY POLICIES! What do you expect us to do? We just work there.

Plus complaining about the ornaments on sale being more than the ones that aren’t. Of course he shrugged. He doesn’t make the prices.

  4. The real food superstore or whatever it’s called also had 1 brand of all the Christmas decorations on sale for 40% off. They had prices the same or better then Walmart.

  9. So you just expect the staff at Lowe’s to take your word on a price from a competer? Any store requires proof of item and price and to make sure it’s the exact same item .

    • Yes exactly. I’ve bought several mattresses from Sleep Country over the years and they have the same policy, but they require this info before honoring it. It doesn’t make any sense for a store to just assume you’re right without requiring proof.

Where’s the eyeroll button when you need it.
What that RONA didn’t have ornaments, but it still put up the required signage?? OMFG!!! How dare they follow required procedures!!
WHAT a company charges more than another company for their goods?? FRAUD!!!
That company wouldn’t LOSE MONEY to give me what I want!! Bigly sad!
Our education system has failed us, when this is the logic adults display.

  11. Wait so you want Walmart to reimburse for fuel because their flyer got messed up on pricing? lol next time if you want cheap ornaments head off to a dollar store

In regards to your #2 complaint, its not uncommon to see identical items with a slightly different model number so they don’t have to honour price matching. For example the TV at bestbuy would have the model number AB-1234-B, at Walmart it would be model number AB-1234-W, and at Canadian Tire it would be AB-1234-C

Since the fine print says “identical” items, they don’t have to honour it because they have different model numbers.

Here’s a suggestion if your that cheap, wait till after Christmas.
This sounds like the posters first time in a retail store. No they don’t reimburse fuel, no they don’t just take your word that it’s the same item. No,the employee doesn’t care your candy cane striped tree ornament you want is 3 bucks more expensive then at daily Doug’s store down the street.

Well 2 makes sense. Apples to apples. It’s pretty standard.

4 because they probably sold them all.

1 has always gone one with Walmart. Don’t support Walmart?

3 I doubt it. Again apples to apples. Are they the same exact decorations? Or are you comparing dollarama items?

  18. 1) mistakes happen in print some time. Did you want someone standing at the front doors telling every customer as they walked in?
    2) well…duh?!
    3) okay so don’t shop there if the prices aren’t competitive.
    4) clearly rona sold out of ornaments. They’ll maybe get another shipment in soon. They’re still not allowed to take the sign down.

    Good grief.

  19. please open you own store and follow your policies as you are teaching others how to apply.
I would love to shop at your place.

If you as a customer ever feel you need to complain about any company always pick up a phone and call head office. The store itself can not do anything. HEAD-OFFICE. GIVE THEM A CALL.

  21. I have personal policies: 1) complain to the people in charge. Employees have no say on prices. 2) If I don’t like the prices I go somewhere else. I hate it tremendously when people bitch to me about our retail prices so I don’t do the same in return. If another store is cheaper, just go there.

  25. If they didn’t require proof of a price match every single person would walk thru the door and say “I just saw a lower price at walmart.” I’m surprised that surprised me. News flash…people lie all the time.

  26. It sounds like all retailers are out to get you! Imagine that

  27. Sometimes a flyer makes it to print without someone noticing that a price or size is wrong….people make these flyers and as you know…people are not perfect. The company is required by law to post a correction, which most companies do. If they do that, they do not have to honour the mistake. It is up to the consumer to read the corrections as well as the return policy…which is also posted. It is not good business practice for companies to be dishonest to their customers, the customers will just shop elsewhere. Most businesses that I frequent are good places to shop and have helpful, friendly staff. If you are the type of customer that always complains and takes your frustration out on the staff, (which don’t make policy by the way), then your shopping experience will be less than satisfactory.
