SHOUTING out to Edmontonians

This is the 411 to all ETS riders…Education, knowledge and 100% common sense. First and foremost “Public Transportation” it’s your choice to ride the bus no one else. I am an ETS rider when you purchase a bus pass it does not guarantee you a seat, it does not provide door to door service that would be a taxi, Uber ect. There are several tools that you can use to plan a bus trip, check your buslink to find times for buses view a map as to were your bus is these are your responsibilities not the City of Edmontons. To those
first which use google ETS to go app edmonton.ca to preplan your trip and prepare thank you for using common sense. If you have an important appointment job interview or need to be at work for a certain time use common sense to plan your trip to arrive early not just fly by the seat of your pants because yes your bus could be late a connection could be missed but blaming the bus driver for a medical emergency on the bus an accident blocking the road or yes even bad road conditions or mechanical issues. Buses can run 5 minutes early or late except at a timing point. Be at the stop facing forward ready to go were the bus driver can see you and if your a block away running common sense along with your safety the bus driver will not stop and pick you up and common sense if the bus driver stops and waits for every person not at the stop guess what the people who are actually ready to go ontime at there stop at the right time will have that bus be late for them. Comment n sense your backpack bags ect did not pay for a seat common sense not everyone wants to listen to your music or your phone conversation common sense not everyone rides the bus to be in a seat and receive a concussion n from your back pack or work bag so why not remove it and carry it in the front of yourself common sense the thick yellow line at the back door mean move out of the way if your stop is not coming up someone else can trip and fall out the door like a senior did one day ……….to be continued “Selfless Not Selfish”

Lol. This is the era of millennials and generation xers. Common sense isn’t so common anymore

  2. Also for the youth of our society, if you have a seat and an elderly person or disabled person gets on the bus and there are no seats, please show them respect and offer up your seat. One day you will be old and will appreciate these things.

Valerie Cooper there hasn’t been one time that I recall a teenager or kid not giving up their seat for an old person. I think most youth know this

If you tell them you need the seat they move

    • Valerie Cooper I’ve seen more grown working adults refuse to give up their seat for seniors then I have youth. Majority of youth sit at the back of the bus for this exact reason

When I was pregnant it wasn’t youth who refused to give up my seat but several grown ass adults pretended not to notice me and one flat out refused when I asked for a seat because “it’s dangerous to get lazy during pregnancy, it will make labor harder.”

    • Katie Alice I actually saw it happen yesterday unfortunately! I’m 9 months preggo and moved seats for a couple elderly folks downtown because they looked like they had mobility issues, very slow moving but kid, maybe late teens/ early 20s, didnt even flinch. I’ve also been made to stand and I look pregnant, not just fat lol Some people are just selfish and have entitlement issues lol I just go about my business and do the right thing and try not to let it bother me. It’s all about not stressing over things you can’t change or have no control over really!

      [0]
    • Valerie Cooper it’s the youth that give up their seats without thinking twice. It’s the self entitled adults who sit there with a dumb look on their face

      [0]
    • 415 I was on the 15 downtown and 4 seniors were standing while all the students were sitting. Its not just self righteous adults.

  4. I had a really hard time reading through all of that, but I think the jist of what you’re saying is that ETS has been known to provide poor service and to lower your expectations as much as you possibly can. Also, people are assholes.
    Did I get that right?

  5. If I have planned to be at a station to catch a connecting bus 20 minutes in advance to get to my job and the bus is still so late I miss my connection then I have every right to be pissed off. Especially when it happens consistently for a week every time I go to use the bus. That’s absolute garbage.

  6. How about the people who continuously want free rides

  7. I used to work for ETS for 3 1/2 years. And one thing I find alot people don’t read the signs. I was yelled at constantly because someone got on without reading sign to realise I was going the opposite direction

  8. Just need to walk on to the bus like you’re walking into jail.

Honestly if I took the bus again I probably couldn’t meet my employers expectations if timeliness bc the bus is that unreliable even when you plan to be a whole bus early.
Don’t care my car costs $500 bc even when roads are shit I’m more reliable and I don’t waste hrs of my day on an impossible system.

    [0]
    • Noh Huan that’s funny, I’ve commuted by bus for nearly 10 years to work and can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve been late. While the transit system definitely isn’t perfect, I think maybe you’re comprehension on how the buses operate is the real issue.

      [0]
    • Noh Huan Noh Huan says:

Laura Olivia Muir oh Ya? I know a lot of the systems quite well.
Not for my commutes. I bussed for 20 yrs in this city just as a side note.

      [0]
    • Obviously you don’t know them quite well if you couldn’t figure out how to get from point A to point B without being late. My commute at one point was 1.5 hours each way and still wasn’t late. Oh, except of course when the bus broke down once but the same thing can happen with a car 🙂

I don’t know why you’d go out of your way just to be a self righteous bitch tho.
Must be that long commute needing to cure your boredom.
It’s not like you’re great friends and were with me.

    • Noh Huan Noh Huan says:

Psh ya no my car is newish and well maintained.

      [0]
    • Nope, just a bitch by nature. I walk to work now since I only live a few blocks away now. Just doesn’t make sense to blame ETS for your shortcomings. Have a great day though.

    • Noh Huan Noh Huan says:

it really does tho. they were constantly late on my routes bc the drivers don’t give a crap or the route over promises and under delivers. but i mean, when i could walk to work i would just do that too. i would rather bike than take the bus.
i mean good for you and your privilege.

there’s no reason to be openly hostile just because you can’t empathize with their experience. grow up,

and again i value my time. in a 1.5 hr round trip i could go to calgary….

    • Noh Huan nah I lived west end worked northside. Had to take a bus a train and another bus and I was on time!! So your time management sucks

    • Noh Huan Noh Huan says:

well enjoy wasting your time on an overpriced and unreliable service i guess!

    • Noh Huan Noh Huan says:

i don’t see why i would spend 2 hrs on the bus to be an hr early for work bc my driver NEEDED to be late to stop for a coffee or talk to his wife.
enjoy being stranded when they suspend all service due to ice.
also where i currently live i would have to walk 20 mins to a bus stop, so no thanks!

      [0]
    • Noh Huan Noh Huan says:

also my time management has nothing to do with having to be places where multiple busses run sporadically or every hour with connections.
you try to make it from nait to the military base in 25 mins smack dab in the afternoon! the transit doesn’t even exist!

  10. If you can’t own your own shoutouts, they mean nothing. Common sense and fortitude demands the author of such comments should have the courage to stand behind their words.

  11. Aimee Lauzon Aimee Lauzon says:

It’s public transit. There will be rude and impolite people. Try using your words and not just sitting there glaring at a person who isn’t being considerate. If you calmly ask someone, most of the time, they will listen. It’s not just young people, it’s every generation. Popular bus routes should have more frequency though. Buses should run later if the city wants us to ride transit. The city should invest in our safety as well. Yes they do have “security” at most LRT stations now but most of them don’t help. ETS stations need security. The stations should be heated as well.

  12. The bus has always and will forever suck. Took it for yrs!! I’m the reason they have sticker signs for expecting moms. Called everyday to complain I had to stand, very dangerous when pregnant btw! No one would give up their seats without a sign! How sad is that? So you’re welcome lol

  13. I just passed out trying to read that.

  14. I was in a wheel chair two yrs and unable to drive let me say I learned ignorance at its best. Between drivers / riders. Common sense is not so common

  15. Thank you! My dad was an ETS bus driver for 28 years and I could never do what he did for even a day. They deal with every walk of life and put themselves in danger with little to no support so common sense and courtesy are critical to public transport working for all!

  16. That was painful to read.
