To the Red Dodge Caravan in Millwoods this Morning.

This is a rant aimed at the grump-old-GEIZER who almost caused a serious accident at the intersection at Millwoods Road East and 23rd Ave this morning- please re-learn how to drive sir, or ask to have your Driver’s Medical re-assessed (or maybe I will make a formal request)!
When someone is ahead of you in an intersection waiting to turn left on a green light, please be informed that the person must *wait* for any oncoming traffic as they have the right-of-way! Don’t sit there like a madman beeping your horn for the driver ahead of you to turn left.

It is very startling to that driver when they are waiting to turn left when they clearly cannot! This also startles others in the intersection, thus putting them at risk for an accident which was almost the case this morning! You should not be on the streets old man! And please don’t pull the “discrimination card;” when individuals become a certain age a Driver’s Medical is mandatory!

If he was behind you honking how did you get this photo of him in front of you? Also, I have been behind people who are so afraid of driving that they could have turned 4 times and made lunch while they wait. Need all the facts here.

It’s okay to pull into the intersection as long as your wheels are straight so if you get hit from behind you don’t cross into traffic.

This is an excerpt from the Alberta Driver’s Manual: Remain behind the crosswalk if there
is only room for one vehicle ahead of
you in your lane in the intersection.
Enter the intersection if it is legal to do
so when the vehicle ahead of you clears
the intersection. If you must stop in the
intersection prior to completing a left turn,
stay to the right of the yellow line and
keep your front wheels pointed straight
ahead. This will prevent you from being
pushed into oncoming traffic if you are hit
      from behind.

Kim Quesada The way I read it she was the “someone” in front turning left. If I was wrong so be it. That said, if it wasn’t her he was honking at, why is she so upset? I stand by my comment about people who don’t turn when there is plenty of room to do so.

or people who dont even move out to the middle of the intersection and sit there behind the line. GRRRR that makes me so mad!

Katie Thomas AMA teaches that. It’s a safety issue.

    • Katie Thomas Katie Thomas says:

Sue Dubya you would get fined for that in the UK lol! Thats the problem with driving in Canada, its not even nearly strict enough on how people learn to drive. Everyone teaching different stuff, easy tests, no minimum set hours with a driving instructor. Way too lax on this stuff. At the end of the day people think they’re safe when they get in their car but you’re basically in a metal death machine! Scary that high school kids get to learn how to drive IMO!!

  11. Dontcha’ hate those people who think that they are supposed to wait for a yellow light before they can attempt their left turn!? One person per light people… One person per light. No honking please or you’ll wind up on some REALLY IMPORTANT confession page! Lol.

  12. My guess is the person in front of him doesn’t know how to drive and had several chances to go. Been there so many times when the person in front is a scared prude that can’t drive and waits for any car insight to be gone .

    [0]
    • Maybe the driver understands the limitations of their vehicle’s acceleration better than you do.

      [0]
    • Lol I drive a Honda Civic so I’m pretty sure I have the slowest car out there. And some of these people could of went like ten times over seen it to many times where the driver is too scared

      [0]
    • Kiran Butt Kiran Butt says:

Wow this comment though.. I’d rather it be safe to cross than the ‘prude’ go when they feel it’s not safe cuz you know what? I’m behind them and if they feel it’s unsafe it’s damn well unsafe. I can’t say enough that this city needs some patience.. What is a minute gonna do to you?

      [0]
    • Clearly u haven’t been on the roads enough to realize people literally will wait till there’s no cars in sight at all when the other car is a mile away. I’m all about safe driving and will not proceed unless safe to do so . Nor will I bully in to anyone going when they don’t feel comfortable. But when no cars are in sight GO. To many scared drivers out there

      [0]
    • Jayme, so right. And when there is 8+ city blocks before an oncoming vehicle and they still don’t go, I WILL honk at them.

Theres knowing you vehicle acceleration and then there’s just fear. And a scared driver is a dangerous driver. ….. and when it’s rush hour traffic, one car getting through each light holds up traffic.

      [0]
    • Yup! See it all the time ! Quite annoying when only one car makes it through each turning light when there was tons of chances to go. I will not honk as I know some people get more scared if they already are . But again if your scared and just learning to drive a car drive in a small town for a few months then go to the city and drive. When I first starting driving I avoided left turns at all cost so I do know what it feels like but I learned in a small town before going out to the city.

    • Haha it was in Millwoods too lol

    • Kiran Butt Kiran Butt says:

I’ve been on the road long enough actually.. I’ve seen drivers wait when I would’ve gone plenty of times.. Only thing is I’m not them and they may see something I don’t.. A person crossing for example.. They could just be scared but being held up in traffic because someone is learning to drive is a whole lot better than waiting for an accident to be cleared.. But that’s my opinion and you have yours 🙂

      [0]
    • Now you do make a compassionate point there 🙂

    • Hey Shauna.

Legally, it does not need to be. But ethically, it should be.

      [0]
    • Soo………. It surprises me that you chose to allow it and pander to some schmuck hating on an elderly person instead of doing the “ethical” thing.
      Just saying

Hey Shauna Chambers you do realize we can see everyone’s plate while we drive right? Posting it isn’t any different really.
And lol that you think the OP is ” hating ” on the elderly. The driver who happens to be older was being a jackass. Medicals when you get a certain age are mandatory for a reason.

      [0]
    • Kristi Dick, the only proof we have this man is being a jackass is the word of a clearly angry motorist who provides nothing to suggest age has anything to do with it. Js…

Charlene Piche it’s the whole point of shout out! Why post something that’s not true? Why waste time and effort to post something if he was lying about the ” supposed ” events? If someone was behind me while I was waiting to turn left at a green and they honked at me, I’d be pissed off too! Safety first!

      [0]
    • Well as someone who lives next to a traffic circle and major intersection with a busy left turn, I can tell you with absolute certainty that some people deserve to be honked at for being such pussies on the road and holding up traffic for no reason.

      [0]
  16. Also, should he share HIS plate for using his phone while driving? That’s illegal too.

    [0]
  17. if you’re going to write something in caps and call someone out with those caps, make sure you spell it right. It’s “geezer”. Someone needs to get their grammar and spelling reassessed. Maybe it should be mandatory.

  18. If someone honking their horn intimidates you so much you can’t drive or focus on the task at hand of turning safely then I think you need to stop driving in large cities. Absolutely never drive in New York City or Toronto because I feel you would literally cause a pile up or shit your pants maybe both.

  19. Aja Novic Aja Novic says:

I hate it when people sit in intersections and miss their chances to go….many times people just wait for the light to turn so the oncoming traffic stops and then they proceed; leaving vehicles behind them now in red and having to reverse.
That being said I will give them a quick honk three times but never ever have I just pressed the horn and sat on it.
Also, when my son is in the car with me I won’t just jump out knowing I can make it if I go quickly I do wait for the coast to be clear so I always justify other drivers and think maybe they have little ones in their car.

What bugs me more is vehicles turning left and going into the right lane instead of the left as they should. That prevents flow of traffic as oncoming traffic turning right at the same intersection now has their lane taken over by a dumb driver who doesn’t know which lane they must turn into

  20. Posting this persons plate # is illegal. I have a friend that works in a police office. All it takes is some geek to trace to who wrote this and it’s 1 yr in jail. It’s called SLANDER!!!!

    • Thought only if it’s fictitious.

      [0]
    • Nope. This lady could be talking out of her ass as well. Everyone on here could be in alot of trouble. That is if someone took a screen shot of all this and took it to the police station. People have to watch what they put on the Internet. It might be a bitching site. But you have to watch what you put on here. BIG FYI

      [0]
    • there’s no way to prove that the vehicle posted in the picture is even the person that OP is talking about(yes it is definately implied but there’s absolutely no proof) so I really don’t think taking a screen shot to the cop shop will make the police do anything about it… that’s just my 2 cents.

      [0]
    • Violet-Marie Brady I was speaking for the person that took someone’s pic of their license plate and started slandering their driving.
