Update on Baby Announcement from Last Year
Around this time last year I posted a pregnancy announcement because we were holding out until Christmas to announce it to family and friends and I just couldn’t hold it in. I know some people commented hoping for an update, so here it is.
After a complicated pregnancy in which I spent 3 months on bedrest and 1 month of that in the hospital, we had a beautiful little girl. She was born premature, so she spent some extra time in the NICU, but she is happy and healthy and thriving now.
This pregnancy was one of the hardest and scariest things I’ve ever endured, we almost lost her at 22 weeks, then I had a condition called vasa previa which has a 90%+ mortality rate for the baby if I hadn’t been diagnosed and if I had went full term. We are so fortunate to have such great technology and health care nowadays to have something like this diagnosed early enough to take the proper precautions. They told me that the only way they used to diagnose vasa previa was an autopsy of the baby after.
I had absolutely wonderful monitoring and care by my OB/GYN and the other doctors and nurses at the Grey Nuns hospital. The nurses in the NICU are truly special people, so I want to give all of the staff there a huge shoutout for making our stay there as comfortable as possible. Most importantly, a big thank you for helping to bring our preemie princess into the world alive and well.
