Use my basketball net!

We have a basketball net in front of our house and we live right next to a school. I see so many kids each day who walk by with their basketball and they give my hoop the look up and down. Several start to make the move to use it until they see me in the living room. I have my office space close to the winter and I can see everything on the front street.

I’d love it if kids felt free to use it, for some free throws or even for a game.
There’s no car in the driveway so there’s no reason not to in my opinion.

How do I indicate that people can use it? I thought about putting up a sign saying #drivebydunkchallenge since that’s the newest craze on twitter but I’m not sure if the younger kids walking by will know what that is.

Basically someone may as well use it – So it may as well be the kids that already wanted too.

I’m not comfortable yelling out my front door that they can use it.

There needs to be more people like you in this world, too many cranky people tell kids to get off their property. Try a sign or if you see them, challenge them to a game.

While I love your generous heart I would caution you to speak with your insurer. You can be sued if someone got hurt, the ball bounced into a neighbors vehicle, broke a window, caused a collision.

Why not let them know. It never hurts to have the local youth or young adults know you to be the good guy neighbor. They may even be inclined to help if ever you have a problem or report a crime etc. I’ve always felt you get what you give, and this is some good juju.

  27. This is amazing!!! Put a sign up and you will have kids out there in no time!! We live in a house that we can’t put a net up at and when we see random nets my daughter always joked about using theirs. So it’s nice to know that some people wouldn’t mind or would even encourage it.

  31. Love this post! Put up a sign offering use of the net, free cheers and maybe a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie….(after asking about dietary restrictions and allergies of course)

  32. Attach a cardboard sign to the pole of the net with zip ties that says, “please feel free to use me” or “I don’t get used much, please shoot some hoops” or something to that effect.

  33. When the kids come by go out and let them know that they can shoot a few hoops if they like or put a sign out saying the same. Good on You.
