Weird skin rash and joint pain

I’m hoping someone out there has something similar. Just this week I started getting small blisters all over my lower legs and the sides of my upper arms.

They don’t itch but they hurt if pressed on. At the same time my wrists and ankles and calves ache and my left hand and left foot are retaining fluid.

I saw my doctor briefly on Wednesday and he thought it might be a skin infection and is treating me with antibiotics. However now the blisters are spreading to my lower arms, hands and neck.

I’ll be seeing him again Monday but just wondering if anyone might have the same thing.

  1. Hard to tell with just one picture. Looks a lot like when I had bed bugs, could be anything though.

  4. Did your doctor bring up lupus? If not please ask the next time you’re in.

    • Lupus has many different symptoms and they must go together for a dr to even think lupus. There is no 1 sure test for it.

    • I know, I figured it doesn’t hurt to ask based on the few things listed from the post. Based on the symptoms given it’s a possibility, one of several.

Even if you did get tested for lupus, popping a neg doesn’t mean you don’t have it. I have a friend with lupus and she can have the biopsy done and pop a pos, and then pop a neg 10 minutes later or on a biopsy done on a different area. OP, You need to see a Rheumatologist ( a.k.a. an R/A) and a dermatologist ( Dr. Kwok at the Kay Center ( Kai? I can’t remember how it is spelled but it’s by the cross cancer institute) is amazing, after 3 doctors tried to say I had scabies, she determined I have keratosis pilaris).

    • Curious why you ask this?

    • I broke out in a bad rash. At first I didn’t know what it was from. I went to the Dr. He kept telling me it was bug bites but that was impossible. He sent me to a dermatologist, who looked at it and said the same thing. Bug bites. I stopped using the baby oil and it went away. Not putting two and two together.
I used baby oil a year oil and instantly broke out in a rash. Was bad on my inner thighs, boobs, and stomach.
      I got rid of it.
But then I tried a Rexall brand of baby oil and had the same reaction.

I had something similar once and was tested for lupus. Turned out it was an allergic reaction to Sulpha which he had given me for a bladder infection.

  8. Not shingles. Shingles follows a nerve pattern in your body and you would be feeling waves of pain along with other Simpsons. I wouldn’t say bed bugs either because those are itchy and tend to bite three or two in a row. Could be a fungus infection.

Probably should go to hospital if its spreading. Could be an allergic reaction. If it spreads up your chest and stuff you could go into anaphylactic shock.

I had the exact same thing a few years ago and I was misdiagnosed originally when doctors thought it was an allergic reaction to a body lotion. It turned out the be the adult version of fifth disease. There is no real treatment, but I was put on a very low dose of prednisone to help with the joint pain/inflammation. It went away on its own after a few weeks, but it made me extremely tired while the rash was visible.

I would suggest a lupus test. Dr will test blood for ANA many people test positive doesn’t mean they have lupus but other symptoms present will help with Dx

    [0]
    • I was told by my doctor to get all other tests possible before you test for lupus because it can really mess up your insurance. Obviously, if you have a lot of the symptoms then it will have to be done, she was going to test me and then she did two more other tests first and I don’t have lupus.

  24. I had that type of reaction when given a sister drug of penicillin called cephalis sporin. I had one of those lumps go under my knee cap. Very painful. Went to the doctor and they put me on prednisone for a few weeks. It took a long time to go away. And my knee bugged me for 10 yrs until I had another issue and was put on another steroid. And it fixed it. Have your doctor do a blood test to check for inflammation. What they called what I had was Erythema nadosum. You are having an allergic reaction. It could get worse if it happens again and your throat could close up.

  25. Oh god… Ebola? Lupus? Sarcoidosis? Asking people on the internet what’s medically wrong with you is a mistake. They will never know for sure and their unqualified speculation has got make you feel even more worried than you were. Just sit tight until your doctor’s appointment.

  26. You should get a referral to dermatoligist.
    Might be Lyme disease

  27. I had something like this as a child called Henoch–Schönlein purpura. It’s like one in a million. It can also affect adults.

Many doctors don’t know what it is- so it’s often misdiagnosed. Look it up and research as much as you can. message me if you need to.

leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) it looks like this starting out and is often accompanied with joint pain. You will need to see a dermatologist though, if you can’t wait for a family doctor federal go to the U of A emergency they will be able to recognize if that is what it is.

  45. I’ve had something like that the past two years in the Spring. The only thing that made it go away was Prednisone. I saw multiple doctors, had multiple blood tests, got tested for allergies and had biopsies done both times and everything comes out negative. Very frustrating. 0.1% betaderm cream has been the best prescription cream so far. I’d love to know if you get a diagnosis. Good luck!

  49. Did you eat something new or different before this started? I am guessing food reaction. Have a simple diet of rice, oatmeal, potatoes, veges, bananas, for a few days… see if that helps.
